Latin Language in Word
As far as I know Latin is not available in Word Mac 2008. Search for Proofing in Help (must be online). Latin spell checking is available for Apple apps if you install CocoAspell and download the appropriate dictionary.

Old Documents
If you are able to can you save the old documents as .rtf (Rich Text Format) and then opening it in Office Mac 2008. It will disrupt the layout, but you can tidy it in Office Mac 2008 once opened. This has personally helped out of a bind. Hope this helps.
