I'm using word 2004, I need icons. How do I get them? Nothing fancy,
basically I just need silhouettes of, say, a car, a family, a house,
etc. Do these come with Word 2004, can I get them online for free?
Thanks.

What are you referring to as "icons"? Icons are a special type of graphic
file used specifically to represent commands on toolbars, devices, folders,
documents, etc. They aren't the same & can't be used as pictures in
documents. If you actually mean images to insert in the document use Insert>
Picture> Clip Art. The standard library may not have exactly what you want
but you can download from thousands of others on the MS web site.

Bob, I meant images. You're right, Clip Art doesn't have too much.
Any sites that you can recommend downloading from? I mean, "safe"
sites that you can recommend? Thank you.

In the Clip Art Gallery click the Online button. There are tens of thousands
of clip art images on the MS web site alone. I don't use that much of it so
I can't offer any other sources.

Bob, I saw the clip art gallery that comes with Word, and what they
have online and neither quite has what I'm looking for. What I want
are simple figures, basically the outline of, for example, a house, a
family, a car/truck, etc. That's it, nothing elaborate. I want to
use them as dividers, or chapter markers for something I have written
in Word. Thanks.

(Also, does anyone know how I make this, my post, easy to find. How
can I move it to the top or something so I don't have to go page by
page to find it. I starred it, but that doesn't do anything, does it?)

Most of us connect to the main server using an NNTP NewsReader that shows
threaded discussions correctly. NewsReaders are very quick and powerful in
their view options.

Since you have Entourage, you will find it has already been pre-configured
for you. Many prefer a different newsreader: instructions for setting them
up are here:
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/AccessNewsgroups.html

There are multiple different sites that steal our work from the main server
and surround it with advertisements. They're all different, and some of
them are not very good: you can google around and try a few of them.

Not to burst your bubble, but the reason you cannot find "free" icons is
that the artists who create them want to SELL them to you. Good icons are
very valuable: so you either need to fire up PowerPoint and draw your own,
or go to any one of a thousand graphics shops and purchase a set :-)

Cheers

Not knowing what you're looking for I can't make any specific suggestions. I
just did a couple of quick searches using the terms "house" & "family" on
the MS site that came up. Each search yielded dozens of images among which I
found at least a few that seemed to fit your description. Keep in mind that
any of the basic "line art" & most others can easily be converted to
grayscale or B/W once it's in the document, regardless of original coloring.

The only thing I can suggest is that you Google using the term clip art.
You'll get about 58 million hits, but once you find a site that has the
style you're looking for you'll probably find everything you need there.
