Is there some software out there (preferably free) that I can use to
convert a .doc file (Word 2004) into a jpeg or tiff file? Thanks.

Assuming the file is just one page?... Image file formats don't support
multiple pages.

If it's just 1 page you should already have all the software you need.
Generate a PDF from the Word doc, open it in Preview & use Save As to save a
copy in either of several graphics formats.

Specifics may vary based on your version of OS X.

Hi Dave,

Perhaps if we knew why you want picture formats we can offer some
suggestions. Is there something about saving as a PDF that is
inadequate? It's easy enough to make screen shots using Shift+Apple+4
then drag over the selected area, or use the Grab utility in
Applications/Utilities to capture what's displayed in the active window.

I'm producing a single page flier containing color photos with text
that'll be sent to a commercial printer to be run-off on an offset
press.

Hi Dave:

In that case, I would definitely go with PDF.

I suspect you will find that a commercial printer will give you grief, extra
cost, and a fuzzy result if you give them anything else.

Cheers

Ditto to John's reply now that your actual objective has been revealed :-)

Additionally, though, use File> Print then click the PDF button & select the
appropriate higher quality for commercially printed output.
