Hi Folks!

I have a protected Word document that has "fill-in-able" fields.

When I fill it in I'd like the spell checker to check those fields I've
filled in. I don't need the spell checker to check the rest of the
document, ONLY those fields that are fill-in-able.

Is there a way to do this?

I'm using Mac OS X with Word 2004 for Mac but the end user of the form
is typically using a PC.

Thank you for your help!!

Diane,

Unfortunately the spell check functionality is disabled for any document
that has Protection enabled. The idea being a protected document cannot be
modified at all. Correcting spelling errors would involve changing the
document.

I will enter this issue as a suggestion, that spell check functionality
should be disabled for a protected document, but available for text form
fields.

Hi Shawn!

Thank you very much!! Bummer that it won't work now but that's
terrific that you'll put it in as a suggestion. :)

Have a terrific day and thank you again!

Hi Diane:

This bug has been around for so many years we have a work-around, here:

http://word.mvps.org/faqs/macrosvba/SpellcheckProtectDoc.htm

This code was written for Word 2000, so it should be fine in Word 2004.

I don't recall whether Word 2004 resets its fields when you
protect/unprotect the document. If it does, that's another bug :-)

In which case, you will also need this bit:

http://word.mvps.org/faqs/macrosvba/TurnFmFlfResetOff.htm

Cheers
