After you have imported to Excel, then delete rows or columns as required,
so that the row containing the column names is the top row (with no other
rows above it) and there are no blank rows before the last row.

Word has to "guess" how big the input table is in Excel, and it does that by
assuming that the first blank row it sees is the end.
