I have a persistent (but not constant) problem of the active window disappearing when I leave the application and come back. All that shows is the Word menu. I can select the open document from the Window menu, but it doesn't appear. I've tried various ways to make it come back, but the only one that works reliably is that I have to go to the File menu, select Open, and when the Finder window opens to select a document the missing Word window also opens. This also happens in Excel.
Thoughts on how to remedy this?

What you're reporting sounds as though (a) you're using the OS X Spaces application & (b) you are lacking updates to either Office, Leopard, or both. OS X should be at 10.5.8 & 12.2.3 is the current update of Office.
Verify that your software is current, run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions & restart your Mac. Let us know how you make out.
