Looks like you have a yellow "fill colour" selected. Pick those cells,
then fill them again with any colour you want (or no colour at all).
You will find the fill colour near the font colour in the formatting
palate.

Thanks Phil!
Appreciate it, as not getting much help here for some reason.
I can't select those cells because they go on indefinitely. Column H,I, J,
K, L, ETC. and the yellow bar just keeps going on.
Also, what the heck is this? I saw it happen before my eyes, but couldn't do
anything. All I did was for column D is do a Select all column and then
paste (control D) the first cell to all others, then these yellow bars were
created in All columns starting in H. But not for all rows, just a handful
of rows, like every 30 or 40th row, totally random.
It's like the program is on drugs.

You should be able to select the cells. If all else fails, use the
arrow keys to get to the first cell (say H1), then shift-command-right
arrow to select everything from there to the right hand edge of the
sheet (column IV, I believe). Then change the colour.
Actually, if this occurs on more than one row, then after
shift-command-right arrow press control-space to select every row in
the selected columns, THEN change the colour as appropriate.

Sounds to me like there was something in whatever you pasted that
didn't manifest itself until pasting. Not totally sure, though.

New news!
The yellow bars not only wont fill with new color, they wont even delete
either.
And if you try to delete the column with bar in it nothing happens.
Actually, nothing will type into any columns past column F. Even cells that
were not cursed with this bizarre yellow bar.

Phil:
Ok got it solved!!
See thread: "select to infinity"
Actually your technique of selection was best: the shift-command-right right
arrow did it perfectly.
So actually did not understand:
" if this occurs on more than one row, then after
shift-command-right arrow press control-space to select every row in
the selected columns, THEN change the color as appropriate."
Don't get that, shift command arrow did the trick, don't understand the
control space idea then

Actually it did not work. The cells are now white, but text wont type in
them.
OS 10.4.7
Office 2004
BUT NOW ALL THESE CELLS WONT ACCEPT TEXT. YOU TYPE INTO THEM AND NOTHING
HAPPENS, ALTHOUGH THE TEXT DOES SHOW IN THE FORMULA BAR.
OS 10.4.7
Office 2004
If the text shows in the formula bar, then it is "there", and something
*does* happen. Suggest looking at text colour: make sure it's
something other than white. If it's "automatic", change it to
something dark, just to be sure.
Also, please don't shout.

Thanks Phil, it seems that the font was white. Why was it white?
It's like asking why did I get the yellow bars.
