This was a bug that's fixed in the updaters.

Download 12.1.0 then 12.2.0 then 12.2.1. Restart between each updater.

Thx...I got the sound to work...now does anyone know how to change the
sound...?...is there any 3rd party sound sets..???

quote from website....
" Entourage plays sounds to notify you of events such as a new e-mail
message or a calendar event reminder. Entourage includes one set of six
default sounds. If you have installed additional third-party sound sets, you
can choose a different sound set."

There used to be a lot of sets pre-Entourage 2008. You can see these
instructions.

Another option:

You can also use rules to play a custom sound to alert you to your more
important mail. I use Jolly's Play Sound application with a rule to get
customized sounds for certain categories of mail. To me this is much more
useful than the default sounds that do not distinguish between important
mail and spam.

You can even create your own sounds or use computer voices to announce your
mail. For example, you could have the AppleScript say Mail from Dad. I use
a combination of sounds for alerts mixed with voices. I have one alert that
can be heard all over the house it's so loud when I'm waiting on a really
important email.

I use these specific sounds for special mails. Examples:

If mail is in category:

Buddy... I hear the spoken text "buddy"
Friend... I hear spoken text "friends"
Work... I hear the "ships bell sound"
Support....the quack sound
Family...the "You've got mail" sound
Alerts....the alert sound...easy to hear this one in another room

The combination of spoken word and sounds makes it easy to identify the
notification. Too many that are just sounds will start getting confusion, at
least it is for me.

Starting to get the picture of how useful this could be?
