Which leads one to wonder: How exactly did you "rebuild your OS"?

Check the version of Entourage you have installed. Look under Entourage in
the Menu bar. Select "About Entourage".
Sync Services were introduced in the update 11.3.2. Is it possible that
Entourage needs updating after the "Archive & Install"?
If you are updated, do this...
--------
Create a new User in System Preferences and open Entourage there. Do you see
sync services in preferences? If yes, then the problem is in your regular
User's folder. Most likely corrupt preferences. If the problem is still
evident in the new User, then you need to use "Remove Office" and reinstall
from the CD and update to 11.3.5.

It's just a small typo, but they were introduced in 11.2.3. The "Archive &
Install" option normally leaves the applications folder intact, so I'm not
sure if an update is required. Anyway, I'd suggest reapplying the latest
combo update for Microsoft Office 2004, which is 11.3.5; this should
reinstall any missing files that might be necessary to enable Spotlight
searches.

As usual, since I use Plaxo, the Sync is going to go awry and I'll
waste hours restoring my calendars to get rid of duplicates. Sigh.
It doesn't matter if I replace sync with Entourage, or Entourage with
Sync, it just never works. But that's another thread.
Glad you and working again and thanks for reporting back on your fix.
See this entry for help with duplicates after syncing.

At least this time, I didn't have ALL my sync data duplicate, or get
lost, which has happened before.
Cheers, and thanks...

I see you have it working now, but for future reference, the indexing is
triggered by the presence of this file:
/Library/Spotlight/Microsoft Entourage.mdimporter/
(note: that's the Library folder at the root level of your startup disk)
This file was installed by the update which brought spotlight indexing to
Entourage (I forget which one that was). In a system rebuild, or if you copy
the installation over to a new system, this file is not transferred, so no
indexing is available. In that case, the 'spotlight' section of the prefs
does not show up.
In future, just locate and save a copy of this file before wiping the system
clean.
