Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Email Client: pop I just bought my first Mac and made the switch from Office for Windows after using it for the past 15 yrs or so. When I am in Entorage reviewing my emails, it crashed about 4 to 5 times a day and restarts. I have tried re-installing the software but it still does it. I think I used the re-install instructions on this website.

Any ideas what I can do to fix this problem? Thanks!

There are Microsoft fonts that are problematic with Snow Leopard. See this
page for instructions on how to remove.

Fonts to delete after installing Snow Leopard (includes help deleting font
caches)

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/remove_fonts_snowleopard.html>

Re-installing software rarely fixes problems like this. It's more important
that you are updated. Check the Microsoft Component Plugin and see if it's
12.2.3 (or if you have Exchange and use EWS, 13.0.3 is the latest.)

"/Applications/Microsoft Office
2008/Office/MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework"

When you crash, check the crash logs (you might need to select view log) and
see if you see WebCore or JavaScriptCore in the logs. See these examples:

<http://tinyurl.com/nrt45r>

If you are getting something different, just copy the first part as shown in
the example in your reply.

RE: WebCore & JavaScriptCore crashes

The speed you click through the messages affects the crash. Entourage is not
having enough time to render the message and some messages include links to
images on the web which take more time.

Try this workaround.

1. Simply going slower through messages can stop the crashes.
2. Set Entourage Preferences > Security to _Never_ download pictures. You
would need to click on the link in each message to show pictures.

The one thing I'd like to add to what Diane has suggested is have you
checked to verify that your data base is operating alright. I never
find Entourage crashes except I've had this happen under one
circumstance; a corrupt record has caused my Entourage to crash.

I have found though, even in this case, verify can come back and tell
me the DB is running fine and a rebuild doesn't solve the problem. The
reason I know its a corrupt record is it usually will happen when I
switch to a different view and if I revert to a previous backup it
doesn't happen. So something has corrupted between that point and
this. It rarely happens but has a happened.

If rebuild doesn't solve my problem and the previous backup does, I
usually revert to the previous backup even though I know I'll loose
some entries. Since my mail is IMAP I loose nothing.

If you can't verify this with a previous backup as you might not have
one, then I believe the best solution is just to start with a new
identity as its really difficult to figure out what that corrupt
record might be. There's a lot of info on this forum on how to do this
but basically its just you export your current DB as an rge file,
choose in Entourage Switch Identities and then choose create a new
identity. Now import that exported rge file.

You should now not experience crashing. You will loose any rich info
like categories, links etc. But the crashing should now stop. The one
caveat here is that sometimes that corrupt record can affect the
ability of the DB to export an rge file. You'll only know trying.
Possibly what Diane suggest will prevent you having to do this
however.....!!!!

Looks like it's a Sync Services crash rather than Entourage specific.

It's possible your data is corrupt. Try turning of Sync Services in
Entourage preferences and see if all crashes go away. If yes, then you might
want to consider resetting Sync Services.

I would create a primary source and make sure it's clean and duplicate free.
(TURN OFF SYNC SERVIES FIRST!) In Entourage you can export your individual
items as Entourage archive (.rge) file and select to delete after exporting.
(DO THIS ON A COPY) When you import the file back into Entourage this can
sometimes clear up corruption issues.

Follow the steps listed here. You should select in the Mobile Me System
Preferences to "Replace Information on Mobile Me" or it will re-populate
your cleaned up file when it syncs.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/syncservices.html#ss2>

When you start turning syncing back on, select to overwrite other data with
the Entourage items. Do one at a time to check.
