Messenger wont quit and I can't shut down my computer becouse of this

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Well....I was using messenger:mac 7.0.1 and sidently all my online contacts went red, I tried quiting and re-opening messenger but it just stayed like signing in and now it wont quit, iv tried everything (but taking battery off) and it just wont quit, please if enyone has eny sugestion....
