Our CFO recently installed norton 2007 av. The worm protection is blocking
connection to isa firewall. I can not locate the correct executable to add
to the allow program tab. Has anyone seen this?
Thanks in advance.

You could add the VPN server's IP as a trusted computer in Norton and that
will fix your problem.

I actually posted a slightly different version of this question today (in
microsoft.public.windowsxp.work_remotely).

Upon installing Norton Internet Security/Antivirus my VPN connection to my
office server was blocked. I thought it was only the worm, rather, intrusion
(as it's called in NIS 2007) protection but I added the VPN server's IP as a
trusted computer in Norton and can leave the intrusion prevention on but the
firewall STILL blocks the VPN connection.

So we’re back to square one: “I can not locate the correct executable to
add to the allow program tab. Has anyone seen this?” I’ve been looking for
it for a week and am going crazy!

TIA

The Trusted computer option will not solve your problem. What you need
to do is select the Configure option under Personal Firewall, then go
to Advanced Settings, then Untick the "Stealthy Ports" option. This
will allow yo to connect via VPN.

wow you are amazing! unticking the "stealthy ports" option did the trick! My
firewall is back up and running and I have you to thank you for it! I can’t
believe that Norton doesn't know something so simple....
I'm sorry it took so long to write this. I was actually in the office
connected directly to the server for the past three days and couldn't try
anything until I got back to my home office this evening.
Thanks again!

I'm glad to find this thread, since I have experienced the same
inability to log on to my office network from home since installing
Norton AntiVirus 2007. If I go to settings and Turn Off Internet Worm
Protection, however, I can log on to my office network without any
problem. But deactivating the Internet Worm Protection every time I
need to log on to my office network is a pain! And I can't find the
'stealthy ports' tick box in the fix recommended above by
neville.nob...@gmail.com (cut/paste is below)... perhaps that is only
available in Norton Internet Security and not available in Norton
Antivirus 2007??

"select the Configure option under Personal Firewall, then go
to Advanced Settings, then Untick the "Stealthy Ports" option. This
will allow yo to connect via VPN."

Can anyone advise how to solve this? Thanks!

I am also having problems locating the personal firewall option in order to
untick the 'stealthy ports' in Antivirus 2007, can anybody please help me on
this?

Thanks in advance

I'm having exactly the same problem.
NAV and not Internet Protection Installed and VPN not working unless
disabling Worm Protection...
It's ridicoulous. And I fear "by design"...

I'm having the same problem - can't locate the personal firewall option.
Turning off Worm Protection hasn't helped either - still can't connect using
VPN. Any other suggestions? Thanks much.

Follow-up to my previous post - here's the official answer from Symantec
...'Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused you. I
am pleased to inform you that Norton Antivirus 2007 does not work with
Microsoft's standard VPN connection.'

Hope there is a rocket scientist out there somewhere that can devise a
workaround!

Pleased to inform you?!?! Since when should Symnatec be PLeased to inform
that NAV2007 doesn't work with microsoft VPN connection? I might be mistaken
but I believe that the majority of people out there use microsfots VPN
software. How will microsfot take this?
One thing for sure, this is the last time I buy NAV....

There is now a patch for NAV 2007 for VPN (WinXP). Took them long
enough. You have to do a reinstall from this sight:

The NAV patch download/install worked beautifully and now I can use
VPN to log on to my office without having to disable Internet Worm
Protection and without having to create any special rules! Thanks for
posting this!
