I do not get the prompt when browsing to
http://localhost/iisHelp/iis/misc/default.asp
When I browse to http://my_IP_address, I get the same thing.
There are no "errors" in my system log.
Directory Security is set to Anonymous Acess for IUSR and allow IIS to
control password.
Basic authentication is unchecked
Intergrated Windows Authentication is checked
Home Directory is c:\inetpub\wwwroot
I have literally tried all the kb articles I could find on MS support site,
but nothing I've tried has worked.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled IIS 5.1 3 times now with the same
result..prompt for password.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
TIA,
Kevin

I have been playing with folder properties on wwwroot and have gotten
IUSR_<computername> to view .html and .gif files...but not .asp files in the
root directory.
So I am getting the password prompt on:
http://localhost
http://localhost/localstart.asp
What's got me is why I get the prompt on this and not on:
http://localhost/iisHelp/iis/misc/default.asp
I'm beginning to think it has to do with NTFS permissions on the wwwroot
folder, but I've tried about every combination I know, which has given me
the .html and .gif sucess...but I need to have full access to localhost
without the prompt.
Can you help?
TIA,
Kevin

Anonymous Access checked
User name: <computername>\IUSR_<computername>
Allow IIS to control password
Using this I no longer get the password. But on all .asp pages I get:
"The page cannot be displayed"
So I can no longer see http://localhost/iisHelp/iis/misc/default.asp
When I right click on the wwwroot folder and go to properties:
General Tab default is "read only"
Sharing Tab set to Share this folder wwwroot
Allow this number of users: 10
Permission button has Internet Guest Account
<computername>\IUSR_<computername> set to Read
Security Tab has Guest Account <computername>\IUSR_<computername> set to
Read & Execute - List Folder Contents - Read
Why are .asp pages not being displayed? IIS is running
Does anyone know the full proper permissions set up for NTFS?
What do I need to do now?
TIA,
Kevin

Is there any place that shows what the correct settings for all this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Kevin

I don't think that it actually applies anything.
What are the permissions on inetpub\wwwroot\localstart.asp?

Permissions for inetpub\wwwroot\localstart.asp is Everyone and Users have
Read & Execute, Read access.
I think what I'm going to do is wipe and re-install XP on FAT32 so I don't
have to deal with this "permissions" nightmare.
Although, I am one of those who like to solve the problem, I don't have the
time to mess with something that should be automatically set up upon install
or re-install...especially since there appears to be no "default" settings
example anywhere for a novice to use to make sure everything works properly
the first time. :-)
Thanks for your help.
