Hi All

Are the ms public newsgroups for asp all dead now?

Is there an alternative?

Microsoft deactivated its NNTP server, but the groups still exist on
many other usenet servers. Traffic has dropped *way* on many of the
groups though.

Hi Tim

Thanks for letting me know, but where have all of the ASP classicos gone?

I'm still here ... waiting for questions to answer.

There really is nowhere else that I know of.

I am here, too. I am just getting started with ASP Classic so I
will not be much help yet. I prefer USENET. It is much easier to
save old messages.

>There really is nowhere else that I know of.

There is a joke about the ALGOL programming language being a
great improvement over many of its successors. I think that this
applies to USENET as well. I could probably come up with at least ten
advantages of USENET over Web forums.

Its like the old gang!!!

And yes, I'm still using Outlook Express for my NG viewing as I hattttteeee
web-based versions :0)

The recent spam unnerved me that these once great groups had disappeared
whilst I'd gone into the wilderness.

How can so many just abandon a fabulous resource like NGs - esp this one?

Has the next generation just atrophied their brains on Facebook instead?

Best regards

Mojo

Funny, this my first post here. :) I came across this site seeing it highlighted in a recent article. As far as classic asp places, forums.iis.net is a good place for ASP questions, a site I started "back in the day" http://www.aspfree.com has forums and I think 4guysfromrolla.com has forums too. I thought the MS groups died off. The only real useful one "for me at least" was the SMTP group, a guy who used to hang there was a wizard.

MS does not own usenet,
though MS thinks she does after buying dejavue.
So if MS declares a NG dead, she acts silly as usual.

Do you have a relevant classic ASP question,
[as the relevancy of this NG is about that]?

What kind of traffic do they have?

ASP support can best be found on website forums (eg. 4guysfromrolla, etc).

ASP articles are sadly outdated, and I feel like we've been left behind - all the support was a decade ago. Even the website forums see very few replies for technical questions. Still, Usenet is dead....
