This picture was overexposed and has bad contrast. I blurred the background
after sharpening the whole picture. Adjusted the color and gamma, and then
masked each fish and feathered the mask and adjusted the gamma again to get
more of a contrast in this image. It worked.

Enough fish pictures. On to something else.

I don't know about big money... <grin> Unless I'm spending it!

I have a Cannon BJC 7000 Photo realism printer at home. With the right
paper and the photo realism cartridge, it does an excellent job on these
photographs. What I really like about the HP Photo Smart scanner that Donna
got me, is it scans the negative at the correct resolution for the size of
photo that you select. That way I'm not depending on the resample
algorithms of the paint program to increase or decrease the size. It
figures that out for cropped images as well. I'm getting super results with
this setup.

I've noticed that some of the enhancements that work well on a computer
display don't print out well. I have to be real careful with sharpening
images. They get a hard, unreal look when they are printed. Blur and
soften work well and the unsharp mask works pretty good on the prints.

Now if I just had the new Olympic digital camera... (I NEED it real bad!
<grin>)

Fun stuff to have and to learn how to use.

Very good work on your photo editing Ron! This is the kind of stuff that
earns the big money actually!! I used to watch they guys in the digital lab
turn some absolute trash into great pictures and wondered how they did it!!
<vbg> I worked on a regular printer and there was only so much I could do
with a really bad shot! although you would be surprised what a good color
printer with an experienced operator can do!!

Oh! You have professional experience. No wonder you pick this stuff up so
quickly! Do you still do this work?

The printer I used in the lab only cost $275,000 and it could print 1,000
prints a minute! (on full auto with no color corrections) depending on the
operator's experience On a good day I would crank out 10,000 quality 4x6's
or 1,ooo 8x10's with less than .1 % returned for redos - I was pretty good
at it! LOL
