I just got my first Kodak Digital Science Photo CD back from Wallmart today.
I never tried having my negatives put on CD before. Always just scanned the
picture. I was real impressed with the quality of the job. Loading the
pictures into photo paint proved to be cool also.

I've inserted an example of the option from the CD. Each of them have very
good resolution. Including the poster size of 3072 X 2048 pixels. I can
pull a small item out of a BIG PICTURE and get good resolution at the size I
normally process!

Fun stuff. Old hat for most I suppose but brand new technology to me today.
I'm impressed with it!

ROn - great picture! And I like the unusual background - gives it flair :-)

Kathy,
I do get carried away with the backgrounds... I like playing with the gradient
fills and the filters.<grin> Corel Photo Paint 7 came with an excellent fill
tool and good support in the gradient and texture department. I'm still
scratching the surface of what this software can do. Pretty amazing is about
all there is too say.

Have you had any of your negatives put on KODAK Photo CD yet? I can't believe
the quality of the pictures I got back. Software on the CD provided for an
image importer for Microsoft Word and Publisher. Corel Photo Paint 7 and Adobe
both support the 5 image resolutions that are provided for each picture. PSP 4
(I haven't loaded the Beta yet) does support the Large format. I haven't seen
how to find and import the other 4 formats in PSP 4 however.

If you have tried the Photo CD, I'd be interested in your impressions of the
technology. I'm still "blown away" with the idea of my snapshots scanned at
3072 x 2048! That is like having a BIG zoom lens when you want to get the
little item out of the big picture!

I haven't had any photos put onto CD yet. Last time I asked about that, I
was told that it would need to be sent to the mainland (I'm in Hawaii) to
ahve that done... and it would take 4-6 weeks :-( That was over a year ago,
so maybe I should check again. I have had Seattle filmworks develop my
photos onto a floppy... I download them from their website, then they send
me the actual photos.

Kathy,
It took Wallmart in Ontario, Oregon 2 weeks to turn the film around. It should
not take any longer from Hawaii. I think the sales clerk said the CD service
they used was in Seattle. The charges were $.60 per picture for the whole role
to include developing or $.80 per negative (minimum of 12 negatives) and you
select the negatives you want to have done. Up to 100 pictures can be placed on
1 CD and if you have a CD that is not full, you can send it back and have
additional pictures placed on it in a different session. I did not get the
charge information on all of these options. I did find out that for additional
cost the pictures can also be scanned at over 4000 pixels per inch of film. I
don't think I can take advantage of this option with the software I have, but if
I could, some real high quality "cuts" could be made from snapshots! 100 speed
film is best for the high resolution scans. I understand the 400 speed gets a
bit grainy at high resolution.

These picture files are large, typically 18 mbytes. I downloaded the
information file from the KODAK website last night on the Photo CD process.
Quite a company, Eastman Kodak!

I've shared my news, so off the soapbox, and on to the next project! <grin>

No it isn't me Kathleen, I was taking the picture. The rider is Dee Craig. He
is a trainer in this area. I'm not quite as pretty as Ben Price, but if you are
interested I'll post one of me, for you. <grin>
