Impressionst effects tested on a big yellow oval produce dirty edges. Any
reason for this?

You don't state any specifics.

What specific Impressionist tool did you use?
Can you tell us any more details about the myriad settings of the particular
tool?
What did your yellow oval look like at its start? Was it a basic flat-color
yellow oval created with the Shapes tool?

Martin,
Going on what I could from your message, it sounds like you're getting
black edges in the sprite, and this is because the current background colour
in the options is set to black. Don't ask me how to change it though, every
time I think I've got it, it still gives me black edges. The reason it does
this is (I think) that the Impressionist plugin doesn't work with
tranparencies, MIC just crops the final thing to the original sprite's
shape. What I mean is that when the plugin tries to move a bit of the
picture outside the sprite, it can't find any and resorts to a background
colour, which unfortuneately is all too often black (and ruins the
pictures). Maybe Ulysses knows how to get the background colour to change
and stick, so it doesn't keep reverting. Over to you, U! 5:)

Well... I don't know exactly from the message what you guys are talking
about. But....

Maybe you can try clicking on the "More Controls" button at the bottom
center of the plug-in dialog. Then you get a drop-down box initially
showing "General". Click on that and then select "Color" from the drop-down
list.

When you do the above you will then receive a "Brightness" and a "Contrast"
slider. You can try bumping these both up to 100%. The other slider in
this same vicinity you can adjust would be the Stroke Color. Change it from
it's initial "Image" selection to "Foreground".

See if that has the effect you want on those edges.
