1) Expand Item description to 4 lines.

2) Expand Customer and Vendor name.

3) Since only four number of lines can be printed from Commend ID, the entry
should be restricted to four lines in the Sales Comment Entry window.

4) Insert picture in Commend ID.

5) In the ITEMS lookup window, the default view is Item Number and Short
Description. It would be useful to allow viewing by selected field.
Otherwise, additional step is required to sort by the preferred field.

6) Additional general Search button in the ITEMS loopkup window.

7) Although you can set up Aging Period up to the maximum 7 periods, the
Aged Trial Balance Report by Detail or Summary only show maximum 4 periods.

8) It would be very useful to have the aging based on months beside number
of days; for example, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, over 3 months, etc. Most
customer make payment based on monthly aging and not strictly on the number
of days.

9) It would be very useful to have the option hold customers automically
when their past due has exceeded their credit terms. And when customer has
made the payment, the system release the hold automically.

10) In the UOM Schedule Setup, you can enter a set of packaging; for
example, Pair for 1 pair, Dozen for 12 pair and 200-Box for 200 pair. But
before you can use the entire set for invoicing, you have to set up the price
for the entire set in the Item Price List Maintenance; for example, $0.25 for
Pair, $3.00 for Dozen and $50.00 for 200-Box. This price list entry is very
tedious when you have thousand of items in the system. The system should
automatically calculate the right price during invoicing when you enter Dozen
or 200-Box.

11) To print picture or text in watermark on invoices, quotes, etc.

12) I like the view of Company business and financial data from Microsoft
Small Business Accounting 2006. At a glance, you can see overdue customer
list, overdue AP, Cash Flow chart, Bank Accounting Summary, etc.

13) We need to have all the quotes, orders, sales, payment and AR
information instantly accessible within 1 click in the Customer and Vendor
Inquiry and Card window instead of having to navigate thru SmartList.

14) Feature to total column in SmartList.

15) The salesperson commissions percent based on Sales or Total Invoice is
not sufficient. We need added flexibility to calculate commissions based on
different level of sales target.

16) Option to set up item price override tolerance based on markup/markdown
percentage in Sales Transaction Entry. If the override price is out of
tolerance, password is needed.

17) The Item Description in the STOCK COUNT FORM is too short and need to be
expanded.

18) When you reprint a posted invoice, the system use the SOP Blank History
Invoice Form which is a different format from the SOP Blank Invoice Form. To
maintain the same format would require the SOP Blank History Invoice Form to
be custom changed to the same format as the SOP Blank Invoice Form. The
system should use the same format from the SOP Blank Invoice Form.

19) Similar standard should apply for Quote, Sales Order and Loan Order. The
system should use the same format from the SOP Blank Order Form for reprint.

20) For voided invoice or order, it would be useful to stamp a big red
'VOID' across the Invoice, Sales Order or Loan Order.

21) Similar standard should apply for reprint of purchase order. For
canceled purchase order, it would be useful to stamp a big red 'CANCEL'
across the purchase order.

22) Dynamics always hang (not responding) at the end of the day. I do not
think this is a memory problem with the PC. Even after we upgraded the PC
memory from 1 GB to 2GB and the server memory from 2GB to 4GB, we are still
facing the same probelm.

23) When we select to send Statement to a list of customers or all
customers, the system prompt for each customer to proceed with the email
which is very inconvenient and time consuming. There should be option to omit
the prompt.

Wow - that's quite a list! Not sure why this is all lumped under Sales
Order Processing, most of your issues sound like reporting issues. And I
know that you posted this as a suggestion, but I would like to respond to
some of these:

2) Customer and Vendor Names are each 64 characters - I have not come across
anyone that needed these to be longer.

3) I vehemently disagree - many of our customers use Crystal or SRS reports
for their invoices and other reports, only Report Writer is limited to the 4
lines, any other reporting package can take ALL of the information from the
Comment.

4) Picture inside the Comment?? Why? There are other ways to get a picture
onto the invoice if that's needed, but I don't think the Comment is the
place for it.

5) Agreed, many of the lookups could use some additional functionality.

7) Agreed, somewhat. I believe there are downloadable reports available
that will go beyond the 4 aging periods. And if not, it's not too difficult
to modify the reports as needed.

8) I have seen this request here before, that the aging be by month, but I
have never had one of our customers request this. Not sure what to make of
that...maybe in different parts of the world this is handled differently?

11) If special formatting are needed, Report Writer is not the right tool
and you need to look to Crystal or SRS.

15) There is a great commissions package available from EthoTech.

18) The SOP Blank History Invoice Form pulls from one set of tables, the
SOP Blank Invoice Form from another. Again, this is a Report Writer issue,
when using Crystal or SRS reports this can be overcome.

19) What's a Loan Order?

20) Once more a reporting issue - it really sounds like getting some custom
reports is imperative for your needs.

21) Please see # 20.

22) Dynamics ALWAYS hanging (not responding) at the end of the day is most
definitely NOT normal behavior. In fact, we do not have a single customer
that experiences this. Memory in a workstation or server is only one small
component of your infrastructure. You would have to provide a lot more
information to even begin troubleshooting this.

Let me also add my WOW what a list to Victoria's comment. (Victoria, are you
going to WPC? Call us if you are.)

1. Get Accountable's Forms printer and print your documents there. You
have much more flexibility there and can add more description, etc. It
drives forms printed by Crystal.

2. Victoria, I have, although rarely (see the Singapore suffix to his
name?) seen long firm names and 64 can be a limit. Use Extender in the
Customer/Vendor cards to create a LONG firm Name and use Crystal Reports to
generate docucuments and use this data (see #1)

3. See Victoria's response. I agree

4. Pictures can be inserted into Record Notes (the little note pads all
over everywhere) and used in documents using Crystal Reports (see #1 above)
They can also be attached using the Iternet Information Window. See our
Confessions of a Dynamics GP Consultant for info on how to do this.

5. There are several 3rd party products that expand the lookups. Also, you
can create your own Smartlist Favorites and use that for item lookups. See
Confessions if you need help doing this.

7. Ok, Im sorry but the package was written in the US where most of us (not
all) use 4 ageing buckets. You simply change the reports to fix this. That
is why there is Report Writer, Crystal, SRS, et cetera.

8. What, you want code writers to think? However, since most terms codes
(again, here goes the Made in USA thing again, sorry) are 30 days, 60 days,
120 days, etc. ageing by days works for most people. Now lets see how your
scheme would work: today is the 15th of the month and I am ageing. This
month has 30 days and the prior month has 31. If an invoice is 31 days old,
is it current or old?

9. You can do this. First, set a credit hold in place that will hold
invoices when the customer is past due. All new orders go on hold. Now,
when a payment is made, let a third party piece of code such as Knowledge
Sync run a script that will spread the available credit to the oldest orders
on hold. Course, the oldest ones may not be the most important to the
customer. And what if they made partial payment. And why cant the AR clerk
just look at the inquiry showing orders on hold for the client and releast
them? Its soooo easy. Investigate Process Holds!

10. I used to hear the exact opposite. "Hey, I want to give a price break
if the customer orders 200-pair and this system just calculates 200 times the
one pair price". If you want to charge the same price for a 200 pair
purchase, sell the item in pairs and sell 200 and it does the math. The
packaging options in the pricelist are for discounts for quantity.

11. See #1 and do this!

12. Setup a KPI on your V9 desktop using reminders from smartlists!

13. Customer Summary!

14. Its called report writer, either the GP one, Crystal, or SRS or SLB

15. There are more sales commission schemes than there are commissioned
sales people in the world. Call EthoTech or Flaum Associates for Commission
Calc

16. This one I will agree with.

17. Use a report writer to generate your Stock Count sheets. The file is
IV10301. Cross it with IV00101 based on Item Number and the record notes
table if you need it.

18. Yes it does. Different tables are used. The report form must
reference the different tables. If you are good, you could export the SOP
Blank Invoice Form, open it in Notepad, change the name of the form to SOP
Blank History Invoice in the top few lines (more than one change) and track
down the table names in the rest of the document. Then import this.

19. see #18

20. Edit the Form. I do this for a LOT of clients. (that's in report
writer, see #1)

21. See #10

22 It only does this for users that put too many requests into one posting.
(Just a joke.)

Geez.....I should send a bill for this one :)

I'm not sure what you mean with this one. It seems that you are printing &
emailing your customer statements here. If you are using an extended MAPI
compliant system then you shouldn't be prompted. If you aren't using an
Extended MAPI compliant system (like MS Outlook/Exchange is) then I believe
that Dexterity defaults to simple MAPI which would require you to have to
confirm each email most likely as you are doing here. It has been that was
(with simple mapi) since what about Outlook 2000 when a security patch came
out.

Between Victoria, Patrick, and myself, it seems that most of your problems
are resolvable. You just need to work with someone that knows the system.
Dont you have a VAR? They should be able to help you with these issues.

Also, check out our web site. We have lots of helpful stuff there and an
SOP book only a few weeks away (Im actually working on it today!)

This is for Richard Victoria & patrick , the way you all answered is
as if complete attacking the customer. Plz think from the customer's
point of view . Some things are assumed that any system will provide.
e.g. smartlist total. Logging of GP when u shutdown the system. But
with GP it is not so. Much space is left for independent ISV's to
shell money out from the customer's pocket. This way the clients are
forced to acceot the system with it shortcomings. They are not happy
with the product. You speak of Crystal Reports as report writer does
not go to far, tell me how easy is to integrate crystal reports with
all security features in GP.!

I have installed accounting software systems longer than most people have
worked on computers and longer than many have been alive. The only people
that have problems with software are those that assume the software will do
things without investigating. I have even written a book on how to buy
accounting software to try to help these people, but they still dont listen

Hey, how come my car does not come with flotation devices to keep it on top
of the lake when I drive off the birdge anyway?

The features this person asked for are available. They are not free and
must be either purchased or implemented. If this customer wants something
for free, he can get a drink of water from a public fountain. Programmers
need to get paid for their code or they quit supporting it.

No piece of softwar that I have worked with in the past 38 years provides
all of the features this client wanted without someone helping them for a fee
get them installed and configured.

Most of the complaints or percieved shortcomings of Great Plains, for
the original poster, are things that should have been found and
assessed BEFORE a purchase was made. With the amount of money that one
has to shell out for a decent system it is utterly stupid to make the
purchase without any investigation and just assume that everything that
you want is there. OK, if it is not stupid then it is incompetent.

No piece of software, especially in accounting and ERP, can be all
things to all people and for you to think that shows that you probably
went into your purchase with your eyes closed as well.

Don't blame the product for your shortcomings in the purchase decision!

I don't believe that I have done anything of the kind.

I inquired that if you are indeed printing customer statements and that you
have to press "Yes" to approve to every email then it's something with your
system (specifically your email client) and that MY installation doesn't do
that (and I assume any other customer that uses email statements from GP or
any other ISV application that automatically emails stuff).

Telling you all the practical scenario. We decided to implement GP 9.0
after assesing all it modules. It was pretty fine supported literally
most of the important issues . Now came the time of reports . Just
because there is no totalling feature available in smartlist , and
some few handful of reports, which were not directly available in GP
( accounting reports), the VAR were charging literally 80 % of the
product cost just to make the reports.(that seems is the least market
price). So it was a weird situtation , either accept the system and
do all the reports manually ( even after having an ERP) or pay that
price.

As others have already stated, if the reporting aspect is important to you,
then it was YOUR job to make sure it was adequate BEFORE making your
purchase. Of any product.

If you need totaling in SmartLists, you can (a) dump them to Excel and total
yourself - cost is a few minutes of time OR (b) look at Advanced SmartList
from Encore. Here is a demo movie:
http://www.encorebusiness.com/Downloads_Demo_Movies.asp. I believe the cost
is around $1,000.

Not sure what you mean by Accounting Reports? If you're referring to
financial reports, then FRx is included in the GP purchase price. While it
doesn't come with any prebuilt reports for YOUR chart of accounts it comes
with samples and manuals. Typically it only takes a few hours of training
for me to get someone on the road to building basic financial reports with
FRx.

I can't speak for others, but the reason I spend my own time on this forum
is to help people. I don't get paid for this. I believe GP is a great
product and it's helped our customers run and grow their businesses. There
are times when people just need a little help or direction to get to a more
efficient solution. That's where this newsgroup comes in. And there are
some legitimate gripes, as there would be for any product out there. Nothing
is perfect. However, when someone writes a list of 23 issues that are for
the most part not issues at all, yes, my kneejerk reaction is to get a bit
defensive.
