Slow performance for some users but not others

We recently went live with a Dynamics GP 10.0 SP4 installation on a Windows
Server 2003 terminal server. For some users, the application runs fine. For
other users, it can take several minutes to even get to the point of logging
into GP. We have ran process explorer and the CPU is not being pegged out
and there is plenty of memory. Using process explorer, we can watch the
threads that Dynamics.exe creates and it seems to stall at

Ole32.dll!CoRegisterChannelHook+0x518

The stack for that thread stalls at

Kernel32.dll!GetModuleHandleA+0xdf

Does anyone have any ideas why GP runs slowly for some users but not others
on the same terminal server?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

Hi Greg,

There's a known issue for TS users with a configured home drive (especially
network drives not in the same domain) on their User profile in ADUC.
Please identify whether this is the case for the users encountering slow
performance during login or when executing a tasks that requires browsing
network drives. I have read Windows Server 2003 SP3 addresses this issue.

Our workaround prior to W2K3 SP3 is create a login script which maaped these
drives and works perfecly in our case.

Hope this helps!

To add to Dencio's comments, performance can also become an issue if users
are roaming their profiles to the terminal server machine. Since Dynamics
caches a lot of data in the temp directory, this would imply that the system
would have to push that data across the network to the users' desktop and
back to the server.

Best regards,

Hi Dencio,
The TS users are all in the same domain, however some of their home
drives are at a server in a different location than the TS. I think you got
me on the right path, I will let you know how it works out.

Thanks,
Greg
