Hi,

I have looked at this problem for a friend but as of yet have been unable to
fix it.

They bought Zoo tycoon along with the add-ons Marine Mania and Dinosaur
Digs. First I install Zoo Tycoon and start it, it works fine. I then install
Dinosaur Digs starts it and it works fine. Once I install Marine Mania and
try to start it is just crashes with a Windows application error, it doesn't
matter in what order I install the add-ons, as soon as I install Marine
Mania there are problems.

I have tried updating the video and sound drivers, checked DX is upto date.
I have also tried a MS Knowledge Base article that suggests completely
uninstalling and reinstalling, doesn't help.

The odd things is that Zoo Tycoon and Dinosaur Digs both work fine, but as
soon as you install Marine Mania it crashes and I have to reinstall
ZooTycoon.

The machine is an AMD Athlon xp 1700 with 256MB RAM, Win98 and an S3
vidcard.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Gareth,

Marine Mania is a double expansion pack that includes
both Marine Mania and Dinosaur Digs

With that in mind, try installing Marine Mania only.

Yes, I know that.

However Marine mania and Dinosaur Digs both require Zoo Tycoon be installed.
If I just install Zoo Tycoon and then install Marine Mania I have the below
problem.

Gareth,

S3 video cards are pretty poor for recent games support, Marine Mania
being the more recent it certainly makes calls that the video card
drivers cannot support, did you check the releases notes? It usually
describes known problems with some hardware, check with your video
card manufacturers for the very latest DirectX compatible drivers...
Also be sure that your motherboard drivers are up to date, do you know
what model it is?

Hi,

Have done everything you have listed.

The vid card is a newer S3 and should be more than enough to run this game,
the release notes say nothing about any problems with this video card.

DX is upto date and reporting no errors, the odd thing is the other 2 games
(Zoo Tycoon and Dinosaur Digs) both run fine, it is just when Marine Mania
is installed.

Motherboard drivers are upto date and also have got all windows updates.

Gareth,

Doesn't mean anything, some new cards have poor DX8 support, and S3
chipsets are pretty poor for gaming in general. DX8 support is
required by Marine Mania, maybe the previous Zoo Tycoon versions only
required DX7 support... Which S3 chipset is it exactly? Did you try to
get support from Microsoft directly about this? They may already know
what video adapters are not currently compatible with their game...

Forgot to mention.

This game was working on a much older PC with an older S3 video card. Also,
MS support was pretty much useless.

Well, I suppose there is an incompatibility with this particular video
card DX8 drivers and Marine Mania, you should check with S3 support as
well. You still didn't tell which S3 chipset it is, can't look for
more possible information for you without knowing at least that...
