Working with FP2003. I was working with several open files and when I went
to save them, Frontpage crashed. Of course, I lost a bazillion changes. Do
these files get saved somewhere? Is there a temp folder just for FP.

Thanks. Diana

Copy and paste this into Start > Run and click OK:

%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir

Good luck. You will have to open each .tmp file in Notepad and read them.

Do "Not" attempt to open them in FrontPage.

Thanks.
Do you think it would be a problem is I set it up as follows. I'm
constantly deleting my temp internet files.
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\FrontPageTempDir

With FP 2003 you can place the FrontPageTempDir any place you want.

It requires editing the registry though, and at the moment I can't remember
the ValueName or exact registry location that's required to do this.

If you're clearing the IE temporary files using The built in functions of
Internet Explorer, it does"not" delete the FrontPageTempDir or any files it
contains.

Third party cache cleaners such as EasyCleaner will delete it though.

If you still want to move the FrontPageTempDir, post back and I'll reboot
into my other system and dig out the info.

Steve,
I do use a third party script (something I picked up from PC World) that
works rather nicely. However, I can't say whether it will delete those
files or not. So, I'll run the original code you sent and give it a try for
a few days and see what happens. If the files stay intact (will take a
couple of days, the script doesn't delete anything less than 24 hrs old),
I'll post back to that you know.
Thanks.

Keep in mind that FrontPage "normally" deletes the files from the
FrontPageTempDir when a page is closed and when FrontPage is closed.
It's normal for the FrontPageTempDir to be empty when FrontPage is not
running.
Any files that are there when FrontPage is closed, are there in error.

Hi Tina.
She's trying to "recover" some files from a crash.

FP Cleaner won't help with this issue.

This gives me an idea for a feature to add to it though.!!
hmmm

Noted. There are several files there - and not all are from the last couple
of days. I'll delete them and watch to see what happens to the others.

It's interesting that this is otherwise a hidden directory!

Do you have a wishes link on your site?

Tina

Wishes?

Well for instance your using FrontPage ... and you think .. wouldn't it be
great if...... and you look around to see if FrontPage actually has that
feature .. then you look for addins and find nothing does the job .... so
the next thing you do is contact your friendly neighbourhood FrontPage addin
maker and say...

Wouldn't it be great if.....

Sometimes known as FrontPage Wishes....

This does work, as addin makers have added things to ongoing addins or made
a totally new one on FrontPage wishes I've expressed ....

You see I'm so lazy I like to have tools for every job ... :)

does that help?

Ok ... I'm with ya Tina.
Actually, Microsoft has either a website or an email address where you can
submit wishlist-type things - I've got it noted somewhere.
I've submitted a few things, but not for FrontPage - at least not yet.

I know ms has .. but it helps when addon makers also do it... :) Particulary
for older versions and for people that can't afford to upgrade ...
