I am trying to insert the picture through Photo
Galleries. I can load the image into that part of the
software. It then puts it in the computer and I post
them to the web. I can even look at them in the preview
and everything looks good. I am trying to use the slide
show version on FrontPage 2002. This is were it post a
small image preview at the top and then post the larger
view below it once it clicks. Then I post them to the web
and the smaller previews do not show up. But when you
click the image that is blank (white with x) at the top
where the image should be it loads the picture below but
still leaves it blank at the top. They are all jpeg or
gif files. Any help would be great.

if you could provide a url. the thumbnail slide show fails on non jvm
computers. I don't think this is your current problem though.
Before addressing the reasons why the pictures don't show you may want to
switch the gallery style anyway. ;-)

Don't forget that you must first IMPORT your images into your site.... if
you don't you won't see them on the Internet.

Kent (& all),
If you get this figured out, please let me know! I have
been trying for a week to get the Photo Gallery function
to work - looks fine in preview, but when I save to web,
photo gallery doesn't appear at all. I've tried all
styles, tried re-building the page, you name it! I don't
even get broken image links, just no photo gallery! For
anyone reading these posts that can help, here's the
page - http://www.e-martin.com/photo_gallery.htm
I suspect it's a MAJOR FP2002 bug, but can't find
anything about it and have installed all the latest
updates/patches.
Sorry I couldn't help you... maybe there's someone out
there who can help us both!

Do you see this page in your web:

photogallery/photo1695/real.htm

Yes, I see it - can open it and it looks fine. I also
have real_p.htm in that directory that looks the same.
There is real_x.htm that appears blank when I open it as
well. This pattern repeats in all of my attemps at
creating a photo gallery.

Amy,

The server you are publishing to doesn't have the FP2002 extensions, only the
FP98 extensions, which doesn't support this component.

All the documentation I've seen (including the FP2002
manual) indicates that the FP server extensions are not
required to use this component - only that java be
enabled (it is)... I'll guess I'll check with my ISP
about '02 extensions to rule that out... this is getting
frustrating!

Amy,

That would be if you are publishing to a server that doesn't have the FP
extensions, where FP will merge the content into the page during the publishing
operation.

Try this open you web on the remote server in FP and attempt to create the Photo
Gallery directly.

Hmm... I'll have to check with my ISP on the FP
extensions. FP is supported, but probably doesn't have
the 2002 stuff installed.
I am already working off the remote server, not
publishing from local, so all photo galleries have been
created directly with same result.
Thanks Thomas for your help... cross your fingers the ISP
can help now.
Thanks,
Amy

Ok, since you are working directly on the server, that explains why it doesn't
work.

You can see the version of the extensions on the server by clicking on Tools |
Web Settings:

3.0... FP98 extensions
4.0... FP2000 extensions
5.0... FP2002 extensions

So, does that mean if I was working local and then
publishing that it WOULD work???
I can see that the extensions version is 3.0... sent a
msg to my ISP to see what they say about upgrading the
extensions...

According to the documentation the Photo Gallery does not require the FP Extensions
See http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q281/5/32.ASP
It uses JavaScript (may not be cross browser compatible) & include pages (there are problems w/ the FP 2002 SE and include pages)

Amy,

I don't think so. Even if the FP extensions are not require, FP may attempt to
do something we are not aware of when the extensions are available, and in your
case you have the wrong version available.

The question for others is this:

Has anyone create a photo gallery with FP2002 live on a remote server running
FP98 or FP2000 extensions or locally and published to a server with FP98 or
FP2000 extensions and had the photo gallery work?

Made lots of gallery pages. none live. I'd recommend doing local then
publishing. I've only ever had problems when I thoughtlessly put the
full-size pictures in the folder "photo###", and of course, with the slide
show gallery which I believe uses a java applet not script.

Okay Thomas I'll bite I just happen to be one of those strange ones who
rolled back to 2000 extensions.

I did as you asked and created a gallery live on the server and all works
fine. Here's a quick result.
http://microsoftgraphics.com/photo/gallery.htm

Not sure exactly what Amy did so here's my steps.

1) Imported a folder called photo which had 8 jpegs in it.
2) Openned a new page and inserted the gallery.
3) Saved the gallery as gallery.htm in the photo folder and when it asked
me about saving or overwriting the images I selected keep them where they
were.

Results:
1) gallery.htm was saved in the photo folder.
2) A new folder named "photogallery" was created. In that folder was
another folder with the 3 pages and thumbs for the gallery.
3) Seems like all works fine.

If you notice this link works fine.
http://www.e-martin.com/photogallery/photo1695/real.htm

Just for curiosity sake create a new page and using the "Include Page"
component include the

"photogallery/photo1695/real.htm" page and see what happens. Your server
may being having problems with the include page component.

Thanks Bill, that blows my theory out the window, but that okay, because now we
know it at least works for one user and should work for others when using FP2000
extensions.

Tend to agree it may be an include page related problem

Hi Bill, Thomas & Chris,
Thanks so much for all of your great ideas! I'll have to
try the "include page" component and see if that works.
Still waiting to hear back from my ISP on upgrading the
extensions.
Also, per Chris' suggestion - since I'm working off the
server, I'm trying to make a local web and try making
changes there then publishing to the server - - I'm not
sure I've got that part figured out yet, but am
determined to make a local copy!! Maybe that will work
better... stay tuned.
Thanks again for your help!
