Seems like a perfect thing for Gallery, the open source picture gallery
project. This will give you an out-of-box solution for making a
customizable gallery.

Niels,
Nothing that comes straight with EW, and the Frontpage PhotoGallery
wouldn't be near powerful enough. There are, however, plenty of third-party
photo gallery apps out there. Since EW is designed to work with ASP.Net, you
may want to look for an ASP.net gallery out there. You should just be able
to google for "asp.net" photo gallery and get a bunch of good possibilities.

I'd recommend using a database driven photo gallery. There are plenty
available and which one would be the best to use will depend on what server
side technology your hosting supports.

Hi,

Just to add what has been said (and in case you'd like a client side
solution instead of a serverside one), try JAlbum (free - www.jalbum.net).
Put your photos in subfolders you name after the themas, let JAlbum see that
folder and you're done.

Kind regards

Hans

If you want to keep it in the Expression "Family" download the trial or CTP
of Expression Media, it's got a nice gallery exporting facility.

Does it create a dynamic gallery he can manage or just static pages? Just
asking since he says he may have 4000+ images and if the pages are static it
would be a nightmare to maintain...

static, but since Expression Media is a library type of application there's
most likely a way to develop a strategy.
I didn't read the 4,000 images part though.

Saw the demo of it at the MVP summit and it looked really promising. I've
got a few different asset management apps, but like a lot of well-meaning
folks, don't use them religiously enough to make a difference. Maybe when
all the expression stuff is wrapped up in the studio I'll develop a workflow
that forces me to use Media. I'm sure it'd be a huge time saver if I could
just get in the habit.

FWIW, Microsoft purchased Media and a friend who is a MacAddict was using
the program MS bought in a class and her comment was "This is fantastic, it
is what Adobe Bridge is supposed to be."

I was pretty confident that it'd be killer just by judging the interest
level and enthusiasm of the Expression Media people we met at the summit.

I am sure Expression Media will be a "killer" as you say - I have downloaded
the trial and it looks fantastic. And as for photo galleries which many
people have been asking about in this forum it seems to do just the thing.
However, it should also be mentioned that it costs around $ 300 (!!!) and
that -at least for the present- it is necessary to also download QuickTime -
a program as aggressive as Realplayer which tries to take over, if not the
world, at least your computer. Anyone not familiar with Mac or QuickTime
should very carefully check the file and MIME options.

nobody could argue with those points you make.
a couple of things to add though;
when it's (Expression Media) is in the "Studio" it'll be much cheaper.
although QT is quite a hog it can be controlled to a degree. besides that,
for $29.95 for QT Pro, it's actually a heck of a deal for rudimentary file
editing and conversion. (shh, I didn't say that. :-) )
