The menu idea can easily be expanded to buttons. You are merely placing
a hover style that changes color, boldness, etc.
This is a decent example with images, which you say you DON'T want:

I personally like the image version, as it allows you to be a bit more
graphically pleasing. But to each his own. The theory behind image and
other changes is identical.

You are very welcome. If you google rollover CSS menus, there are some
really neat examples you can "steal" out there. Some are good enough to
literal JUST "steal" and use.
