Subject: Removing an Exchange 2000 Server

I have a Windows 2000 Advanced server running Exchange 2000, the server
drives crashed I was able to restore exchange from a backup and reinstall
using the disasterrecovery switch, but now I cannot get exchange to mount
the stores or pretty much do anything. So what I am trying to do now is
remove the exchange server so I can reinstall fresh but everytime I try to
uninstall it says you have users with mailbox stores on this server which
have to be moved to a diffrent server or mail disabled. Before you can
uninstall. Since I do not have a second server to move the stores to I want
to disable mail. How do I disable mail?

Thanks
Jeremiah

Subject: Removing an Exchange 2000 Server

I am not sure if this is the correct procedure, but I had
a similar problem in a test environment. Instead of
rebuilding all the machines, I simply went into AD Users
and Computers, selected the users in question, right-click
and select Exchange tasks and deleted the mailboxes.
Before performing this step, make a good, solid backup of
your Exchange as you want it to be. Then, after deleting
the mailboxes, you should be able to remove Exchange. Upon
re-installation with disasterrecovery switch, the backup
you have will have the accounts attached to the mailboxes.

Hope this helps.
