We are running NTBackup on another domain controller than
our Exchange Server. Can I backup the Exchange server
across the network through a share or do I need to run
backups on the Exchange Server itself? If I can do it
across the network, what folders to I need to make sure
are included/excluded? I realize the M:\ should not be
backed up, but it does not even appear in the share.

Thanks in advance for any advice..

You can backup Exchange remotely using NTBackup. Install the Exchange Amin
tool on the machine you want to run from. This will also install the
Exchange 2000 aware verion of NTBackup. You will then see some extra options
to backup Exchange. It will explain itself :)

Don't try to backup the M drive.

THANK YOU!!! I’ve installed the Admin tools and now see
an option for my Exchange Server. There are only two
options to back up, the Information Store and Site
Replication Services. The M:\ drive does not appear since
it does not reside on the server I’m backing up from. Am
I safe to assume that I am not backing up the M:\ drive
and only backing up the Info Store which contains the
First Storage Group and Site Replication Services which
contain SRS storage? Is this all I need to back up?
