The Restore of our crashed (Hardware-Crash) Exchange-
Server failed. The Windows 2000 Server and Exchange 2000
are running now, AD is okay, but we cannot mount the
restored priv1.edb-Database We have got an online full
backup (BackupExec 8.6) and we can restore the public
folder (pub1.edb), and we can mount the public folder
after using "eseutil /p pub1.edb" for hard recovery.

But we can't mount the "priv1.edb"-Database.
Using "eseutil /p priv1.edb" produces the following error
message:

"Operation Terminated with error -540
(JET_ErrDatabaseStreamingFileMismatch, Database and
streaming file do not match each other)"

Uing "eseutil /mh priv1.edb" to check the state produces
the following messages:

"State: Dirty Shutdown
[...]
Log Required: 18636-18636
[...]
Operation Terminated with error -535 (JET_errBadPatchPage,
Patch file is not valid)"

Copying the requiredo old log-file 18636 doesn't work.

Did you say you have full online backup of DB ?
So it is totally recovery situation !!

1- Reinstall your Windows 2000 with previous name used before, SP,
and Exchange agent as well if you use 3rd party backup software CA or
Veritas ..etc
2- Remember to configure the folder that your previous DBs were located also
transaction logs if you modified their destination folder in previous server
3. Join to domain , log on your 'god' account
4 .Reinstall Exchange server with /disasterrecovery switch
5. Install SPs for Exchange as previous installation
6. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DESTINED FOLDER CONFIGURE EXACTLY
AS THE PREVIOUS SERVER'S FOR YOUR EXCHDB
7. Restore: MAKE SURE (6) folder is EMPTY !!!, store is dismounted and
overwritten !!
- Use NT Backup of Windows 2000 to restore:
since you have full online backup (which might be by Windows 2000 NT
backup)
run it as you wish, MAKRE SURE AS (6) !!! otherwise it will be failed
- Use 3rd restore party agent:
run restore from your backup server,,it should do the work
as I know,, MAKE SURE YOUR AGENT HAS FOLLOWING PRIVILEGE
- Act as part of operating system (in local policy)
- Logon as service
- Logon locally

- Next time you can try to run NT backup for the whole of your
windows-Exch2000
but exclude the DB folder and transaction logs (as I configured)
- If OS & Exch failed,,just got the NT backup file from cartrdige ,,,run
restore NT 2000
and then copy all *.DAT file to rebuild the *.dat file !! every thing will
be fine :-)

Good luck,
J

That is not a nice situation to begin with. To get around this error you
can run Eseutil with the "/i" switch.

Eseutil /i - bypass the database and streaming file mismatch error:

The /i option ignores the signature mismatch error in the check phase if
the
database and streaming file do not match each other. The database and
streaming
file will receive new signatures in the repair phase. Without using this
option,
repair will terminate immediately once the database and streaming file
mismatch
error occurs.

From the Command Line Run:

eseutil /p <database name> /i

NOTE:
======
The "/i" switch is not available in the RTM version of eseutil.exe. The
"/i" switch was first introduced in the SP1 version of eseutil.exe.

If using the RTM version of eseutil.exe and an upgrade to SP1 or later is
not possible, follow the steps in the following article to run the eseutil
/p /i command, you will need to use at least the SP1 version of the files
listed in the below article:

244525 XADM: How to Run Eseutil on a Computer Without Exchange Server

Let me know if this worked out for you. It may however best for you to file
a ticket with Microsoft Product Support Service for phone support.
