I had to rebuild my ADC/Exchange Server, and give it a new domain name. I
have the old .EDB/.STM files mounted as a Recovery Storage Group but when I
try ExMerge, I get the following errors:

Error! Cannot identify the user with the msExchMailboxGuid
M\18\0C\BF\BD\D6\B5B\B0\A9\2E\E3fI\14L. The legacyExchangeDN is
/O=OLDDOMAINNAME/OU=FIRST ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=USER1.

I also tried the Recover Mailbox Data Exchange Task. I accept the offered
Destination Mailbox Store of NEWSERVERNAME/First Storage Group/Mailbox Store
(NEWSERVERNAME) and it fails with the following error:

"The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed.
The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no:
8004011d-0512-00000000"

The system shows the 2 email accounts in that storage group, but I don't see
how I can migrate/map them over to the new server. The old server is toast,
so I cannot simply connect the two.

I've run eseutil & isinteg and the stores appear OK...

No takers? Is there really no way to do this? I have to believe that MS has
some method to do this.

Will did you get this resolved. I too have lost a server...I have the backup
edm and stm files. I have mounted them to restore...getting the same error.
There seems to be no fix, and I'm hoping that perhaps you have found one.

Ryan,

Yep... got it resolved. Here's what I did:

1) Had each user move their current email folders (they'd been running
without their old data for 2 months) into .PST files.

2) Went into Active Directory Users & Computers, and removed Exchange
Attributes for each user.

3) Went into Exchange Manager and purged the email boxes in the current
storage group to totally remove them from the system.

4) Mounted the old EDB/STM as a New Storage Group

5) Ran Cleanup Agent on that mailboxes folder - each mailbox changed to a
disconnected status.

6) Right clicked on each mailbox and did reconnect and chose the user to
reconnect it to.

7) Moved the mailboxes to the First Storage Group.

8) umounted the New Storage Group

I then, on the client workstations (since they'd been running email for 2
months without their old email), deleted their Microsoft Exchange Profile (so
that it would clear the cache) and reconnected it.

Finally, I had the users move all their email from the temporary PST files
back into the Exchange Server mailbox.

Hope that answers your questions and is easy to follow. If not, just
post/email me and I'll see if I can help more.
