We have Exchange 2003 and are in the process of upgrading to Exchange 2007.
The AD structure is parent domain with child domain and Exchange is in the
child domain.
When installing the mailbox role we get the following warning
Warning:
Cannot find the Recipient Update Service responsible for domain
'DC=parent,DC=com'. New and existing users may not be properly
Exchange-enabled.

We have an enterprise RUS in parent domain and a RUS for the child domain in
2003.

And you dont have a domain RUS for the parent domain.
Thats what that error is telling you.

I'm getting the same warning message, but we've already moved to E2K7... I'm
trying to install my second Mailbox/Hub Transport server in this AD site as a
SCR target. I think I should be able to safely ignore this, but just want to
make sure... Thanks.

You can ignore it or create a domain RUS so it doent throw the warning

Thanks for your answer. Is there an advantage to running domain RUS? As it
is, everything works just fine... How do you create domain RUS in E2K7
environment?

You dont :)

Once Exchange 2003 is removed from the org, you'll delete all those
RUS'.
If you dont have any mail-enabled objects in the root, you never
really needed that RUS anyway.
Going forward, use only the 2007 tools to mail-enable objects and
you'll be ok.
