Hi,

I am creating totally isolated test lab in which i restored my working
Active Directory server and now i am working on restoring the exchange
server 2007 database. For this, i setup exchange using the following
command

setup /M:RecoverServer

this command completed successfully and i could see all the storage
groups and Mailbox databases. however, Mailbox databases were showing
status as dismounted as i had yet to restore the backup from the
original mail server. While restoring the backup, i checked the
following options

1. Restore database can overwrite the existing database
2. Mount at startup

In NTBackup, i checked the following option

1. Last backup set
2. Mount database at startup

restore completed successfully. But now, when i try to mount the
database, it gives the following error

"Exchange Unable to mount the database that you specified. Error Code:
MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database (hr=0x80004005
ec=-544)

Can anyone help me in this.

To work around this problem, you may try following methods:
1) Sometimes this issue occurs when logs are not played during restore. In such a case you can just do a eseutil /cc and point to the temporary location where logs have been restored to. This should allow you to mount the database.
2) You can run ESEUTIL /P then /D on the Recovery Storage Group Database and then follow the instructions as mentioned here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125197%28EXCHG.80%29.aspx

3) Use a third party Exchange server recovery application like Stellar Phoenix Mailbox Exchange recovery:http://exchange.stellarservertools.com/

Bob
