And I haven't been able to find an answer with the searches I've been doing.

Hopefully someone here can help . . .

When you run the New Mailbox wizard, if you go with the defaults it will
automatically select the database to use for that mailbox. Does anyone know
(or can point me to the doco that will tell me) how it selects the database?
What is the algorithm/criteria for the system making its choice?

f/ups to microsoft.public.exchange.misc

Happy Holidays!
And thanks in advance!

According to
http://blog.flaphead.dns2go.com/archive/2009/11/30/exchange-2010-training-day-1.aspx
it is:

1.Gather all databases in the org
2.Exclude any that are marked for exclusion
3.Exclude any that are not in the same AD site as the provisioning server
4.Pick one randomly - check if it's "up" according to active manager. If
yes, use it. If no, repeat step #4.
For #2 Set-MailboxDatabase <name> -IsExcludedFromProvisioning:$True
