smart-card login breaks OWA login

We're a SMALL business: E2K7 (all roles hosted on W2K8 server with AD
installed).

Some users are required to use smart-card login on our LAN (enforced in
AD). When these users attempt to login to OWA from remote location that
has no smart-card drivers installed, they're not allowed to connect
(credentials error). All other users connect fine.

Any suggestions as to how to manage or correct this situation?
