Recently most of attached PDF's are coming in as octet-streams which our
firewall blocks. I checked our Exchange server and our PDF's are also going
out as octet streams. I changed Internet Message Formats for application/pdf
but they are still going out as octet-streams. I restarted both the virtual
SMTP server and the SMTP service. Is there anything else I have to do to get
this to work.

Also did SP2 cause this?

This probably doesn't apply but I had an issue with PDF being delivered
to our OWA users as an octet-stream which require a horrific extra step
of saving the PDF before viewing it. Maybe this is rolled into the owa
functionality?? I've got a frontend/backend config. Here's the key I
changed:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeWEB\OWA

Key: KnownContentTypes

Added a value for "application/pdf".

Restarted the System Attendant service. Now it's not being sent as an
octet-stream to my OWA users.

Hopefully, if anything, this'll send you down the right path.

Thanks Bill, I figured out how to add the MIME application/PDF to Exchange
also.
