By default all new Public Folders are hidden from Exchange GAL in Ex Svr
2003. Is there any way to change this property so new Public Folders are NOT
hidden by default? Thanks.

Hmm, I thought pf's were not hidden by default. It does not appear that
way when I test. Try to verify if your pf store in adsiedit has the
msexchhidefromaddresslist is set to true. If it is put it back to not
set. This may be propagating the setting.

They aren't hidden from the GAL, but unlike Exchange 5.5 they aren't
mail-enabled by default.

Mail-enable the folder and it should show up in the GAL.

I'll be a little more specific. By default all my new Public Folders come
with the box labled "Hide from Exchange Address Lists" on the Exchange
Advanced properties tab unchecked. That means every time a new folder is
created I have to go in manually and check that box so that folder will get
resolved in Outlook. The folder is mail enabled in that it will receive email
but only if the user knows the correct email address. Since the new folder
doesn't get resolved in Outlook, the typical user has no way of sending email
to that folder until that box is checked.

Currently the dept that owns the set of folder has to email me every time
they create a new folder and it's getting really old. I would think I could
enable that property by default but can't find it.

Were you able to verify if the msexchhidefromaddresslist is set at the
store level in ADSIEDIT?

So you're still in Mixed-Mode operation? That's the only way that PF's
will be mail-enabled by default. IIRC, PF's in Exchange 5.5 were
hidden from the GAL by default, too. That's the way Exchange and PF's
have eworked since 1996. I don't see that changing.

Switching to Native-Mode operation won't help. While the folders that
you mail-enable won't be hidden from the GAL, new folders won't be
mail-enabled at all.

You can, once you switch to native-mode, put the PF hierarcy into its
own Administrative Group and delegate permission to someone else to do
the mail-enabling.
