Extract data from an closed excel using VB

hi,
I need to extract data using an VB application from an
closed excel,the amount of data in the excel would vary ,
as it is being populated from another application.
then i need to make an Er diagram in Visio using the
contents of this excel,
Can someone help me with code for
1) writing a VB application to extract code from an closed
excel
2) creating a visio diagram from the data

Any help would be highly appreciated
