The very first message I receive is " 'xls' cannot be
accessed. File may be read only.... or server may not be
responding...." As it is opening up all the other
documents, it gives me error messages like "file format not
valid" "this file is not a recognizable format. If you know
the file is from another program...." and "Excel cannot
open Access mbd directly..."
I then have to physically close each of the workbooks and
say "no" to the save dialogue.
This just started this week (just found out that this just
started happening to a co-worker also).
Is there something wrong with the install? (why is it going
to my documents?) Could there be an imbedded macro
somewhere(I shared 2 workbooks with another co-worker this
week)? Could I have inadvertantly done something in Access
(I'm a newbie to access) that is relating to Excel?
I went to xlstart and couldn't find anything; I'm hoping I
haven't picked up a virus somewhere (I use symantic's live
update weekly and scanned my c drive yesterday [no virus
found])
As a work-around, I removed all the documents from the My
Documents folder; so now Excel launches the way it
should... opens with a blank worksheet.
I can't figure out why this is happening; Is it windows? is
it Excel? Can anyone give me a clue as to where to
troubleshoot this? Thanks in advance -pat stevens

Tools>Options>General. Get rid of(delete from box) any path in "Alternate
startup file location". Probably is pointed now at your MyDocs folder.
