Subject: Negative Hours and Minutes
Two cells - both custom formatted, [h]:mm to allow cumulative hours and mins
e.g 37:45

I can add them togather and take one from the other, but if this produces a
minus I get ############## ???

I want to be able to do something like this:-
35:50 - 37:00 = -01:10

Can anyone tell me how I can do this?

Amanda,

to do that you either have to change the date system, tools>options>calculation, and check
1904 date system, note that 4 years and 1 day will be added to all present dates, or you can
convert the hours to decimals by multiplying by 24

=(A3-A4)*24

where A3 holds 35:50 and A4 37:00

Hi Amanda:

You can either (1) switch to the 1904 date system using <Tools>
<Options> or (2) write a custom function The former approach will throw
off any existing dates in the workbook, I believe by 1462 days.
