Hi Darryl & Richard,
This is a "deprecated" meaning "no longer in service" newsgroup that
still appears on some newsgroup servers, which explains why you did not
get a prompt answer.
Unfortunately, the answer to your question for Excel 2008 is No. You
can't dock the formula bar to the Excel window.

Thanks, but I have sorted it out.
I think the ledger was corrupt, I opened a new one, customized it to y
needs and simply pasted all my data into it.
Now when I insert a row it automatically insert all relevant formulas.
The old one kept saying formulas not used in ledgers!

If your right-hand column contains a formula to keep the balance right, then
when you insert a row, you need to insert that forumula also. The format
painter does not insert data or formulas. Depending on the formula, you may
be able to just copy it from the cell above and paste it into the right-hand

Insert rows in Excel Ledger problem

I am using a ledger for simple accounts, Date, Name, Service, Amount
and Total.
The far right column keeps a running total. I have however omitted
some data and am trying to add rows in various places in date order.
I can insert the rows no problem, however, the final right hand cell
remains blank and will not update the total.

The formula bar in Excel 2008 is at the top of the screen - not within the
Excel window like it used to be in earlier versions. It won't let me dock it
in the window like most of the toolbars. Is there a way to dock it in the
Excel windows?

Data Validation Lists Disappear

I have configured a data validation dropdown list in a cell using an
explicit range for the list.
This works as expected even with "split frames" activated. However, when
"freeze panes" is activated, the arrows and the input message appear
when the cell is selected but the dropdown list does not.

Mac Excel not holding it's "Feedback with sound" setting

Even though I continue to set my Excel prefs to "Provide Feedback With
Sound" it continues to default to 'no sound' when reopening a new or

The following doesn't use the TRANSPOSE function, but maybe it'll help.
If the original data is in Sheet1, put this in Sheet2!A1
=IF(OFFSET(Sheet1!$A$1,COLUMN( )-1,ROW()-1)="","",
OFFSET(Sheet1!$A$1,COLUMN()-1, ROW()-1))
Then extend the formula to the right and down as far as needed.
I have Office 2003 for Windows.
