A friend is heading up a volunteer group which is indexing genealogical
records by entering names and dates in a four column format. This was
done on computers containing various versions of Excel. For some strange
reason the person merging the data produced by the volunteers, did so in
QuattroPro. Another person, attempting to "rescue" the data and put it all
back
into Excel was able to convert it back but with devastating results. Many
entries appear 3 and 4 times.
Is there a way to isolate and delete the duplicates other than doing it one
record at a time? An uncomplicated fix?
Incidentally, this database was destined to be placed on line, as a
searchable
index, but will not be accepted unless it is submitted in Excel.
TIA,
Lois
Try the Data, Filter, Advanced Filter feature. Select "copy to another
location" and "unique records only".

Thanks! I made a small experimental worksheet with triple entries for each
person.
Followed your instruction and it worked. Will be a great relief to
volunteers who
put in a lot of time.
Much appreciation,
Lois

Double check the results; what would happen if multiple entries were
randomly scattered?
You might need to do a sort first if that case messes things.
