After downloading IE8 Beta, I discovered so many bugs that - for the most
part - I determined that this Beta version was not practical even for
developers to use and, due to the unstable environment IE8 created, it had to
be removed from my system.
Just a couple of examples:
1) Google maps as well as many other web sites would not display correctly
in IE8 or even when reverted to IE7 emulation mode;
2) eBay members feedback profile would not display correctly - majority of
page information was simply blank, etc.

Regardless, if you've downloaded IE8 and need to remove it from your
computer, go to: Start > Search > (type in: System Restore ) > click on
system restore icon > continue > remove last (windows update)> and system
restore should remove IE8 Beta.

I strongly caution everyone that this Beta edition of IE8 is very unstable
and should ONLY be used on a 'Test' computer by very advanced users.

I found that running this file: C:\WINDOWS\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe will
suit most users just fine, and doesn't force you to reinstall several other
software applications.

I don't have a C:\windows\ie8\ folder, nor do I have anything called spuninst
on my HD. Maybe that would explain why IE will not start now.

i've had ALOT of problems with IE8 & when i revisited the microsoft site it
offered me a download of a program called 'silverlight' (which is for better
videos and audio), and upon installing this program it automatically made my
IE8 program start working successfully since i installed it.

so give that a try if like me u were not getting internet pages to load
properly & experiencing slow speeds as i was.

hope this helpful.

For vista Fed up with Internet Explorer 8 which is unstable at best? IE8 Beta
1 may occasionally crashes or not responding when browsing websites, and
users have to close the browser with request to send the error report to
Microsoft. The bugs or crashes happen more frequently especially if users
using third-party add-ons such as Google Toolbar. This is generally expected
as this is the first beta of IE 8.

Beside, user interface of IE8 is generally similar to IE7, reducing the
enticing for users who face problems when using IE8 to stay using it. If you
decided to rollback and revert back to original IE7 or IE6, it’s possible to
uninstall IE8 to do so.

IE8 can be uninstall by using Add or Remove Programs module in Windows XP,
but in Windows Vista, Windows Internet Explorer 8 is not considered to be a
‘program’. Instead, IE8 is categorizing as an ‘update’. Thus, users will not
be able to find Windows Internet Explorer 8 in “Programs and Features” of
Windows Vista.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, go to Control Panel, and click on
Uninstall Programs link or Programs and Features icon. Then on Tasks pane on
the left, click on View installed updates link. Locate and select Windows
Internet Explorer 8 in the list of installed updates, and then click on
Uninstall button. Click on Yes when asked that are you sure want to uninstall
the update

stuck. I had no crash problems, I just wanted to go back to IE7 because IE8
wount let me edit Office live website.

The easiest way to uninstall IE8 Beta in Vista is to go to Programs and
Features under Control Panel, click on view installed updates, find Windows
Internet Explorer 8, highlight it and click uninstall. No problems with the
uninstall, it's nice and clean. It will take restart to finish, but you
won't have any issues going back to IE7.

I full agree in this. IE8 is unstable. A system restore helps fix the
problem. IE8 is not recommended for regular use unless the full version is
out.

I just wanted to thank you Rai for telling it like it is. I wish this post
was at the top of the page so I didn't have to read all those other,
non-working responses just to get to your correct uninstall method. It was
easy to follow and easy to uninstall. Now, if I can just find a copy of IE
7.6...LOL! Thanks again Rai you made my day!

WELL!!! Considering all of the preceding posts before me, and since I am a
newby, a new guy in town to all this post stuff; can anyone definitely tell
me how to kill this monster that, IE8 beta is, has become?

It is a pervasive/invasive part of an OS system that some well known entity
didn't want, sold rights to! Don't they kick themselves now!

A computer language; DOS, that almost everything is built upon to this day.
Binary!

Yes, there are variations of the language; you can name a few, I'm sure!

I hate IE 8, as well as most do. What must we/will we do, to end/kill it?

Oh, BTW; how do I get rid of/kill it? I'm an xp os user as well. No vista;
For me!

Thanks for all your preceding posts. Very helpful. A vietnam vet!

Hi All...I just had to come here quickly because I recently installed the IE8
Beta & was having numerous problems, & came here looking to see how to
uninstall & go back to my IE7. I have Windows SP & the IE was showing in my
add remove section but I was scared to do it thinking that it may remove IE
all together & i tried to just go & install IE7 hoping it would take IE8's
place but it said it detected a later version, & so coming here I found the
link provided below from DCBERTISEN & OH MY GOODNESS it worked like a
charm!!! It removed IE8 & just reverted me back to my super IE7 & all is
working beautifully now!! It removed from my computer & from the Add Remove
Section & everything is back to normal, so I suggest EVERYONE just use that
link he provided.
Hit START>RUN> & type:C:\WINDOWS\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe

& ....THANK YOU ALL For all the Help. It was very much needed for me...Im
not very computer savvy!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hi All..
I relplied here already but to the incorrect message..lol. Sorry for any
confusion!
As I Came to Originally Tell you All...

I recently installed the IE8
Beta just like all of you & unfortunately I didnt come here & read about all
the issues before hand as I guess I should have, & therefore I was having
numerous problems just like all the one's everyone else was having, & well, I
came here looking to see how to uninstall & go back to my IE7. I have Windows
XP Service Pack 3 & the IE was showing in my "add remove installer" but I was
scared to do it thinking that it may remove IE all together & so i tried to
just go & install IE7 hoping it would take IE8's place but it said it
detected a later version,
BUT

coming here I found the link provided below from DCBERTISEN & OH MY GOODNESS
it worked like a
charm!!!
It TOTALLY REMOVED IE8 & just reverted me back to my super IE7 & all is
working beautifully now!!
I didnt have to do anything but let it run & restart.

I had to just come here & make sure everyone knew this as I HIGHLY SUGGEST
that you all just use the link DCBERTISEN provided

Hit START then Click RUN & type in: C:\WINDOWS\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe

You will be pleased & relieved!!!
Wish I would have come here sooner & now I know to do so in the future!!

& ....THANK YOU ALL For all the Help. It was very much needed for me...Im

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I have just discovered that running IE8 will not allow me to edit my
officelive website. It seems that microsoft overlooked a huge issue here. I
like some features if IE8 but if I can't edit my officelive website I have no
other choice than to uninstall...but that in itself is a problem too.

Terrible, terrible, terrible
(1) New tabs and new windows go nowhere
(2) locks up continuallly
(3) gives error messages that don't make sense and when googled yield no
relevant replies
(4) gmail will not display correctly
(5) launch it once and look in Task Manager and you might see 2 or 3
instances running

This should not have been released for public download - shame on you ...

I discovered that I had an old Java Runtime module on my system. I was using

All's running quite well now.

Installed IE8, had many of the same issues as the rest of you. Uninstalled
IE8 under Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel (hadn't read this discussion
to realize there was a better way). Theoretically uninstalled IE8, but now
have issues with other MS products like Outlook and Word....mostly doing the
"hanging" thing we saw with IE8.

Suggestions?
