I have had to reinstall Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 4500 desktop but I
only have the Windows XP SP2 disk which I have used to install Windows.
Sometime before I had the computer problems that required me to reinstall I
had made a backup of the system uusing the Windows Backup program using
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System>Backup. After reinstallation of
SP2 I found that this option is not now available. Unfortunately I need
the backup to complete the reinstallation because I am unable to reinstall
the drivers for the Ethernet card which stops me from connecting to the
internet and the LAN. I can read the external hard disk in which my
backups are stored but I don't know which are the relevant files. In
addition, I was expecting the backup to reinstall the relevant registry
entries. I have tried without success to download the drivers from the
floppy disk which came with the Ethernet card, when I installed it in 2004,
but the computer hardware wizard is not even aware that the card exists. I
am using my Dell laptop to send this message.
Please can anyone help me?
