Hi Arnie,

First, this group is fro VB6 and earlier. You should be posting to the
dotnet newsgroups. I have cross posted this reply to
microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.vb, and set follow up to there.

As to IO.Packaging, it comes with 3.0 and later and is in WindowsBase.dll

For more information on OXML and Office documents, I suggest you visit
http://openxmldeveloper.org/

Wonderful. The adult equivalent of "I know you are, but what am I." No
wonder folks have lost respect for you Bill, you're acting like a schoolyard
bully. Who made you sergeant of arms of this newsgroup? Do you have some
directive from MSFT to defend and protect .net in the vb classic groups?
While I agree the back and forth bashing needs to stop, you certainly are
not helping out any (isn't that what MVPs are supposed to do? Be helpful?
Respectful?) by going tit for tat with each and every post that you do not
like or agree with.

So what is it going to take ? Clearly the folks starting it are all over
here , the anti-dotnetters. Why do you think everyone else should turn the
other cheek ? The folks ***STARTING*** it need to stop. And I suggest you
have a good hard look at your posts. Need I remind you of the senseless
attacks you made on me yesterday when I wasn't even discussing anything with
you ?

Check the beginning of this thread... it would've died off at 2 post, if it
weren't for your big mouth, so.... who's starting flame wars again?

Senseless attacks? Bill, if I am going to attack you, you will know it.
Cite, please.

While I agree that the folks starting it need to stop (and FTR, I don't see
Bob's reply as "starting it" as he was stating facts, not opinions), your
childish follow ups only encourge more. Maybe you should take a good hard
look at some of your own posts and why you are making them in in the first
place. To get even? That's all I am hearing from you with the "they
started it" excuse. And you still never answered by original question: Who
made you keeper of the VB Classic boards? Why do you feel it's your
personal goal to constantly stomp on those posts that don't share your same
views? Why the senseless combacks for said posts? I hate to say it, but a
lot of this crap started when you stepped back in and started pounding on
everyone who said something you didn't like. Maybe it's you who needs to
clam down and back off a bit.

fwiw, go to the dotNet vb.upgrade group and scrape the cobwebs off the
walls. You won't find a single post of Bill's in that group... then, see the
dotNet vb.data group... Bill? Nope. Not there either... now, try the dotNet
vb.controls group... first thing you'll notice is questions from January
remaining unanswered... then, a quick look-see for Bills name? Nope... not
there either.... see, I gues dotNet's just so wonderful that it's self
supporting. Those questions that go months without answers? It's because
dotNet itself provided the answer.

I've browsed thru several dotNet groups this morning. Not a single sign of
Uber Bill. Why? He's here selling dotNet, that's why and making sure we
don't bash his precious beta class development environment.

Are you so dense that you can't see it was a dotNet specific question? No, I
didn't answer the OPs question because there was an adequate answer there
already. One that specifically informed them that this is not a dotNet
group. It really seems simple to me... if people come here with C#
questions, we redirect them. If they come here with questions about the
remote control on their TV, we redirect them. Should we, like the dotNet
evangelists that seem to live in this group, simply let their post collect
dust? In what way is ignoring them "better" than telling them where they can
get answers?

I'm sure the OP is sending flowers your way as we speak, so thank gawd you
were here when he needed you... now, how about helping people in a dotNet
group, where there are cobwebs forming and getting thicker by the day....
you know, where people made the mistake of posting to the *correct* group.

you are cross posting to.

I am the OP. I asked about VB6. If I had wanted to ask about

For those of you in the dotnet group who aren't yet ignoring this thread :),
we in the Classic VB groups are plagued by a handful of people whom we
lovingly refer to as ".NET evangelists".

Only after a flame-war was well underway did one of them see fit to
cross-post it to the dotnet groups. It appears to have had absolutely no
other purpose than to fan the flames.

On behalf of the Classic VB group (well, okay, on behalf of me...but I
believe most others would agree), we apologize that this had to spill over
into your group. Many of us have a more balanced view of things than what
it may appear here in the heat of the moment, and we're only too happy to
refer questions to your group when appropriate, and to have questions
referred to us when appropriate.

If you haven't already, I strongly advise you to kill this thread and move
on, as I am about to, in the hopes that this UTTERLY pointless flame war
will die off.

Sincerely,
Robert Morley
