I'm interested in developing simple and small device lets say watch that
operates on battery using Micro .NET framework. Where do I start with
hardware? I mean I have no clue how to design, I know only it needs a
processor , clock chip battery and LCD. Is there any tutorial how to create
simple device that would be compatible with Micro .NET

Thank you

Hi,

Did you take a look at USBizi chipset from GHI Electronics. I think it is a
good start for your project

Creating your own device compatible with .NET Micro Framework requires lots
of work, hardware knowledge and native code. I would suggest starting with
some already created and tested device, be it any from GHI, Device
Solutions, SJJ or others.

I'm crashing into this news article because I just asked a very similar
question. As a C# developer of intermediate skills I intend to use the
MicroFramework to build a device similar in shape size and application to
the GPS units that we see mounted on dashboards. So I am also looking for
guidance. As it does pertain to guidance I can refer others to this
Microsoft Application Architecture Guide, 2nd Edition [1].

I need a color GUI and I will need a device that can signal across a room
filled with people and furniture. Multiple devices of the same type will be
used in the same room with expected signaling let's say no more than 40-50
feet. At the moment those are the only questions I know I need to ask and I
also know I have a hell of a lot to learn which is the way I like it :-)

So right now my study indicates the use of MicroFramework, Sidekick and some
signaling protocol such as ZigBee or Bluetooth. After watching this Channel
9 video [2] by our friend and colleague Scott Hanselman interview Colin
Miller of the MicroFramework group I understand I should acquire a developer
board.

But what board and from whom might me recommended for me to start with?

Start with the emulator and C# express...free to get started! Once you have
understanding of NETMF then you can select one of the available boards and
start using real hardware.

Good advice. I'm trying to find the 4.0 download. The new developer site
only serves 3.0 yet their blog(s) state 4.0 has been released. Hmm, I wonder
if its at codeplex or that new open-source portal that was recently
announced (can't remember what they call it...

Hello Hillbilly,
as Thomas noted in the "ANN: .NET Micro Framework 4.0 downloads" thread, you
can download the SDK at

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=77dbfc46-14a1-4dcf-a809-eda7ccfe376b

The source code is a part of PK, which is available at

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=16fa5d31-a583-4c0d-af74-f4d5e235d5bc

Hope this helps,
Jan
