OT: Antivirus on Web Server

Just wondering if any of you have experience with antivirus software running
on servers dedicated to serving Web pages (dedicated Web servers)?

If so do you
1. Not run any antivirus software?
If not, why not?

2. Run any? If so, does it slow things down noticeably?

If you are not surfing the web on your web server, the need for anti-virus
is greatly reduced. There are some exceptions, of course, like being able to
upload files, etc. While not as likely to infect your server, someone can
upload a file to get virii on other people's computers that use your site.

In general, however, I recommend anti-virus on all computers, including
servers, as it is safer. Most server based AV products do not noticeably
slow down the server, esp. a web server. Remember that a web server,
generally, does not do massive amounts of work and is more likely to clog up
the network than overload the CPU. There are exceptions, of course, but a
few cycles with AV will, at worst in the average scenario, cause issues when
you place a new build on the server.
