I am trying to install Directx 9.0c on a computer that previously had 8.1.
The computer is running Windows 2000, with Service Pack 4.

Whether I do an install from Windows Update, or try to install Directx from
CD, I get the same results. All of the files are extracted properly, and it
begins to copy the files, but hangs at qdv.dll everytime. I have tried
numerous supposed "fixes" with no successful results. I have even attempted
manually deleting the old qdv.dll, with no success. After the installation
attempts, Directx seems to be half-installed and there are a mix of version
numbers when using dxdiag.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dan

Hi Danj,

Try starting Windows 2000 in safe mode and log in with your
Administrators account to install DirectX. This will eliminate
a lot of possible conflicts and hopefully resolve the issue. :-)

Alright, thanks for the suggestion. I tried this once with no success, but
a second try seems to have worked.
