Empty your cache, in IE, tools, Internet Options, delete files.

Thanks for the advice Mary, although it doesn't solve the problem

Do you have problems on other web sites viewing images?
Is your video driver up to date?

Don't appear to have problems elsewhere, video driver is fine. We do have the problem on more than one machine

Usually, the problem turns out to be caused by an over-zealous proxy server.
Are you using this at work or at home? What Internet Service Provider are
you using?

It is a connection via a proxy server, I have not tried it from home. Can you give any pointers as to what to look at on the proxy server?

In the past, we've had problems where the proxy server was blocking specific
paths in order to try to control user behavior (E.g. prevent downloads,
etc). Does your proxy server include any such blocking rules?

If you're a real techie, feel free to send me a HTTP trace (E.g. using
www.fiddlertool.com/fiddler/) as your browser tries to interact with the
website, and I'll look into it.

Has anyone ever figured out this problem? I have the same problem, too, though I haven't in the past. I've never been able to figure out what has changed. Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi there, In the seven years I have been at this school, I have never encountered white spaces outlined by black placeholders in place of imported gifs or jpgs. But just this week, this started happening. It has ocurred at the same time that I have started a website for the first time. Now...every, single word document, whether on the web or just on my computer has no picture where I placed one. If I edit it or go to print preview, I can see it, but it doesn't show up on the document. This is really wacky and we have no proxy server here...so what is going on here? sometimes the whole document will come up blank! It is like a disease! I have tried everything I can to solve this irritating problem, but there are no solutions thus far. If it is an "over zealous" proxy server as one person mentnioned, who can tell us what to do about it?

In Word, tools, options, clear picture placeholders.
If this isn't the problem, go to the manufacturer's web site of your video card and
look around for an updated driver.

This problem (images not appearing in document) has nothing to do with proxy
servers. It's probably due to either a buggy graphics driver, or a broken
plugin or virus (http://www.microsoft.com/security/default.mspx).

I finally figured out what MY problem was with not being able to view clip art online - it was McAfee! I turned off Virus Scan Online, Privacy Service and Personal Firewall, and had no problem viewing the clip art. Others may want to try this just to see if this is their problem. McAfee obviously is doing TOO good of a job! Thanks, Eric, for the input you gave me, though.

We have a proxy server which requires a username and password to access
the web, because of this it blocks word accessing the microsoft web
site for clip art etc...

I had set up internet settings to bypass the proxy for a number of
microsoft addresses

microsoftoffice.com
r.office.microsoft.com
c.microsoft.com
office.microsoft.com
config.office.microsoft.com

Staff though started to report that when you tried to import on-line
clip art the clip art didn't appear in the preview box, instead you had
a blank icon. The solution is to add the following address to the list
to bypass.

i.office.microsoft.com
