System State Backup Not Available

Hey All

I have a DPM Server in DomainA.local backup up 2 DC's. I have a full two-way
trust between DomainA.local and DomainB.local.

In DomainB.local I have 2 SQL Servers and 2 Web Servers. I've performed a
manual agent install and attached to DPM etc.

When I create a protection group containing any of the Servers from
DomainB.local and I expand there server in the protection group wizard I
intially receive this error:

DPM cannot browse sql.domainb.local because the host is unreachable.

1) Make sure that sql.domainb.local is online and remotely accessible from
the DPM server.
2) If a firewall is enabled on sql.domainb.local, make sure that it is not
blocking requests from the DPM server.

Details: Access is denied

Upon clicking close, I can see and succesfully tick each file system volume
however System State does not appear as an option and for the SQL servers
(sql 2005 sp3, vss running) there is no option to backup SQL. AKA they dont
appear in the list of availble "data to protect"

File system backups complete fine. Does anyone have any idea why I may not
be able to see let alone add the System State and SQL backups in the
protection group wizard

All server are 2003 SP2, DPM fully patched.

Hi,

This is strange. Can you please look up the error log on the fileserver? It
is located under <DPM_Isntall_Path>\DPM. Run inquiry on the fileserver from
the DPM using the protection wizard and once you see the datasources from
the filserver, please look up the DPMRACurr.errlog on the fileserver. The
time in the errlog is GMT. Please look for some failures raised and paste
the stack here.

Hi,

These error traces have proved inconclusive. Can you please paste error logs
from DPM server? They are located under <DPM_Isntall_Path>\DPM. Run inquiry

on the fileserver from
the DPM using the protection wizard and once you see the datasources from

the filserver, please look up the MSDPMCurr.errlog on the DPM server.

Can you please let us know aht kind of server you are trying to protect? Is
it a cluster? The OS of the fileserver?

Hi,

This was looks like a failure due to Share Inquiry failing with Access
Denied. On the fileserver from the command prompt can you please try 'net
view \\[machine name]'? Please resolve any share releated failures and run
inquiry again from DPM Admin console.

There's no share related errors, being generate by the net view.

Does DPM require any specific shares in order to backup the system state?
