When trying to send emails to external email addresses we are getting a
failed to initialize token error, any ideas would be helpful. I am using CRM
3.0

I have seen this when the SMTP server is not resolving he external aliases
properly. Can you send mail regularly from that SMTP server to an external
email?

I have found the solution to this and figured I would post it since
documentation is still laking for CRM 3.0. The issue was my Authentication
method to the Exchange server. I was using Anonymos, when I switched to basic
and provided a user and password it solved the issue (I used the user
information that I created for the email connector account).

Hi James,

Did you have to re-install the server to do this? I remember seeing that on
the install, but can't find it otherwise.

Thanks,
Ron

Ron,

You can change the settings in the registry for the Outgoing email server.
It's ok to do it this way, according to Microsoft. The alternative is to use
the Add/Remove Programs Repair on CRM, but this may do more than you intend.

Thanks,

I had a similar problem. I fixed it by change the properites of my
SMTP Server in Exchange, using the Exchange System Manager. The
permissions were to restrictive and did not let other computers submit
or relay through our exchange system (even when they authenticated).

Just be careful as there are some settings that you may need to set (like
the userid/password) that can't be edited directly and if you chose the
"default" settings, most of the regkeys aren't even present to edit.

I too am receiving this error message. CRM Server does not give me the
option to repair the installed software. What are the steps to change it in
the Registry?

Thanks in advance!

From the CRM server, go to add/remove programs and try running the Repair
from there.Click the "Change/Remove" on the CRM install and it will then
give you the option for a Repair.
