I'm surprised it hasn't died on it's own. I've been through this before and
if it dies during the workflow upgrade, everything else in CRM is fine, but
your workflows (and all their log history) might not be usable.
Generally, it's recommended to stop all WFs and delete all the history
before doing the upgrade. Not sure if you're testing or doing it for real,
but if you're testing I'd probably kill it, roll back to v3, deleted the WF
history, and try again.
