Howdy,

If you take a look at this newsgroup and sort by name, you'll find a few
other posts of mine. I'm having a really BAD time with CRM on my
workstation, however a coworker of mine and my laptop are working great!
Here's the scenario

My workstation (WinXP Pro SP2, Office 2003 SP2) is at a remote location from
the Exchange/CRM server (SBS 2003 pre) and not a member of the domain. I VPN
in and installed the Laptop client on my workstation from the ClientApps
folder. When I try to open Outlook, I login to the exchange server (RPC over
HTTP) and then it hangs. I cancel the process and reopen and Outlook prompts
that it will disable what caused the error. It disabled the COM Add-in
Microsoft CRM Outlook Addin. I tried removing the addin, restart outlook,
then add it back in from c:\program files\microsoft
crm\client\bin\crmaddin.dll. As soon as I hit OK, it hangs. I have also
installed CRM from the client CD, specified the address of the CRM server.
The installation verification OKs the server address. The Microsoft CRM
status indicator in the task bar states its Online always.

Any ideas? Where do I start? Is there a debug for CRM?

Thank you!!!

David Lozzi

OK, I get an error Event Viewer Application Log:

Event ID: 5903
Source: MSCRMAddin
The Microsoft CRM Outlook add-in could not be initialized correctly.
Restart Microsoft Outlook and try again. HR=0x80004005. Context=.
Function=CAddin::OnConnection. Line=220.

Also, i notice an Information event:

Event ID: 17157
Source: MSCRMTracing
CrmTrace was successfully loaded; Tracing Enabled:False, Reporting
Process:OUTLOOK, AppDomain:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\.

How do I enable tracing? Will that help?

Thanks!

Ah, one more thing. When Outlook disables the COM Addin, I can still browse
and update information through the Microsoft CRM folder. The CRM menu and
toolbars are disabled but it looks like the lists are connecting to the live
server. Any updates made are immediatly updated to the main server... weird
eh?

Thanks,

Hello David,

Try to go to control panel/User Accounts.
In the user accounts dialog select the Advanced tab and press the Manage
Passwords button.
The set the domain/user/password for the CRM server.
Its work for me on VPN environment.

Hi David:

Are the other computers which are working the same scenario as you, offsite
and not a member of the CRM domain?

In the note below you say you VPN in and then try to use RPC over HTTP.
MSCRM is not supported via RPC over HTTP, and I don't understand why you
would try to use that if you're already VPNed...

If you can provide more info we'll see what we can do.

I have setup my domain\username for the server, server.domain.local and
domain.local. I can go to start, then run, type in \\server and get the
server without requiring authentication....

thanks

Yes, the other users are the same scenario.... I meant RPC over HTTP for
Exchange, not CRM. I am using the local address for CRM.

All of the computers that are running MSCRM in Outlook are not part of the
domain and have to VPN in. Each computer can access the web based client
too.

The problem workstaiton is not part of the domain, VPNs in. It CAN access
the web client fine, the CRM for Outlook hangs...

Hey David:

I am working on a similar situation with a customer right now so this is
interesting.

So the other 2 computers are not part of the MSCRM domain yet can use MSCRM
via the web browser and the MSCRM Outlook Client? Are they connected to the
MSCRM server domain via VPN at that time?

On the machine you are having trouble with, can you access MSCRM via the
browser? So you do have a VPN connection to the MSCRM server when trying to
use the Outlook client?

John.

David - it sounds like you used a VPN connection to install the CRM Laptop
client, but don't use the VPN connection for everyday Outlook use (hence the
reference to RPC over HTTP). The CRM laptop client does support the ability
to take CRM data offline, but you have to manually put it into offline mode.
I'd suggest that you VPN in, start Outlook, sync your CRM data, put CRM into
offline mode, and then disconnect the VPN connection.

HTH...

I would love to do that, but when I open outlook, when VPNd in, it hangs. If
I open outlook with the VPN disconnected it errors as expected however I can
use outlook.

Hi David,

Sounds like your having a bit of a battle there mate!
We have experienced the same problems.
Providing your VPN system is functioning correctly there are a couple things
that we have done to resolve our issues.
They are:
There are a couple things to try when faced with this issue.

RESOLUTION 1
Re-create the Outlook Profile.

RESOLUTION 2
Re-create the User Profile on the PC.

RESOLUTION 3
Remove the 'Go Offline' and 'Sync with Outlook' buttons from the role in
which the user facing the issues is using. Best method is to duplicate the
role a user has assigned (eg salesperson) and create a second role. Open the
user's properties and remove the existing roles and add the newly created
role to that user that has the 'Go Offline' and 'Sync with Outlook' options
removed.

RESOLUTION 4
In Control Panel on the effected users pc, open the 'Users' area, goto
advanced and then manage passwords. In this menu, remove any/all server and
crm server entries.

RESOLUTION 5
Ensure Internet Explorer is set to automatically login with existing
username and password.

RESOLUTION 6
Dissable the role and goto the CRM menu in outlook and goto options.
After you goto this select the synchronize tab. In this try removing the
bottom two tickboxes so that no syncing between the local msdb/server is done
to outlook.

Hope that one of these helps.

God knows we tore hair out over it!

Nathan Warner
